Members biker55 Posted August 22, 2013 Members Report Posted August 22, 2013 Hi all, any advice on how to mark stitching holes in black or dark leather so that you can see it better? my eyesight isn't as good as it use to be. thanks Quote
Members Jason Austin Posted August 22, 2013 Members Report Posted August 22, 2013 I would just poke it with my awl but I suppose you could get a white pencil from the sewing area of a craft store. Quote
Members biker55 Posted August 22, 2013 Author Members Report Posted August 22, 2013 thank you. thought it'd be more complicated. Quote
Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted August 22, 2013 Contributing Member Report Posted August 22, 2013 I can understand your problem. I too don't have the close up eyesight I used to, and black leather would make it that much harder. I found that just to be able to do a good job sewing, I needed really good lighting and I had to buy my first pair of reading glasses. It was the only way I could make sure I had everything lined up right. Bob Quote
Members El Zipster Posted August 22, 2013 Members Report Posted August 22, 2013 I use a magnifying visor with a light mounted to it for all stitching and other close work. Works out great for me. You can pick them up on ebay for a few bucks. Cheers Zip Quote
Members WScott Posted August 24, 2013 Members Report Posted August 24, 2013 White pencil and a LED headlamp works for me My eye sight is changing too Quote
Members Matt S Posted August 24, 2013 Members Report Posted August 24, 2013 Oblique light (falling at an angle across the leather) should help. Quote
Members bluesman1951 Posted August 24, 2013 Members Report Posted August 24, 2013 White pen called a Jelly Roller also known as a gel roller . Available at art supply stores costs 1.97 washes off with damp cloth .Nothing better in my opinion . Comes in other colors and has a fine point . Quote
Members Dwight Posted August 25, 2013 Members Report Posted August 25, 2013 Laugh if you will, . . . good old welders soap stone works pretty good too, . . . just have to have a piece of fine grit sandpaper close by to keep it sharp. May God bless, Dwight Quote
