Molding Leather

Hello all, I'm trying to make a cell phone case for a coworker but I'm running into a bit of a problem molding the leather. the dimensions are 2.5x3.5x1 inch. I'm having the most problem molding the corners because of excess material. I've tried cutting slits at the corners, tried removing some of the material, but it still doesn't work. the only other way that I can do this would be to make it in sections. if anyone has any ideas, I'd appreciate the help. thanks

thanks for the video. I did try what was shown. but I'm thinking maybe the piece of leather I was using is too thick. it did swell up considerable.. I buy my scrap leather from a hobby shop, so I'm never really sure what type of leather is in the bags.I'll try a thinner piece and see what happens. thanks again.

You can make a very quick and easy cell phone, ipod, pager, etc. case with this little diagram.

It's held to the belt or waistband by a metal clip, . . . two side pieces are sewn or riveted to the round piece.

The top strap holds it in the case, . . . with a snap.

It's a "snap" to make.

The belly part of a hide is very stretchy, and is easier to work with for this type of application than a back, which is much firmer and doesn't stretch much. Parts of the cow that naturally moved and stretched a lot during it's life will make stretchier and easier to form leather for molding.

Yes, but not too hard. Neatsfoot oil will help extend the life by adding some oils back in and make it softer to the touch. and I have made a couple of formed cases, one for my leatherman that I carry every chance i get, and another for a holster. both keep their shape very well.

The leatherman case keeps its shape so well that I crush the case frequently when under a vehicle and it it pops right back into place when put my leatherman away.
