georgeandgracie Report post Posted October 10, 2013 Is there any kind of glue that can be used for "basting" waxed canvas?
gottaknow Report post Posted October 12, 2013 We're currently producing goods from waxed canvas in the factory. You will not be able to baste it for sewing with an adhesive. I have personally used a regular stapler and removed them later. The holes from the staples can be "healed" with the wax itself if its in an area that shows. georgeandgracie Report post Posted October 12, 2013 That's excellent information and I am very grateful to you. I thought I was being silly using a stapler (and hoping for another option). 1/4-inch staples barely hold, though - are you using 3/8-inch staples? Do you "heal" the holes by applying extra wax such as Martexin Wax? What about using Barge Cement to hold narrow hems in place before stitching? Does that work? Matt S Report post Posted October 13, 2013 You tried swabbing the seam with solvent before glueing?
georgeandgracie Report post Posted October 13, 2013 No, I haven't tried any glueing yet. Can't find Barge cement locally. Does the solvent treatment help quite a bit with adhesion?
Matt S Report post Posted October 13, 2013 It's only something I've seen rather than tried. Supposedly it removes much of the wax and oil and allows regular contact cement to work. As I say, I've never tried it.
alvhg09 Report post Posted January 15, 2014 If you are still looking for a solution you can try sanding the seam a little bit and then using latex as adhesive, we use it here at the factory, its not a permament adhesion but will help you with the stitching. Chris B Report post Posted January 20, 2014 I know this is off topic, but where do you purchase your waxed canvas? Thanks, Chris

Wizcrafts Report post Posted February 7, 2014 At http://www.fairfieldfabrics.com. That link has a period at the end of .com that is breaking the link, resulting in a Server 400 bad request response. The correct link is: http://www.fairfieldfabrics.com/
