Too Thin To Be Safe?

Recommended Posts

I have some ho leather, 9/10Oz. I want to make some simple one ear head statlls for every day easy riding. Is that to thin to be safe? I would think its ok since it only holds the bit,not like I'm tying a horse up with it or anything stressful like that.

Thoughts?

The leather thickness Should be fine if the leather is in good condition.

One ear headstalls are unsafe on snaffle bits. In my opinion. Fine on shanked bits though.

Add a throat latch and all should be fine either way.

Just my opinion though.

9-10 is about right for headstalls other than heavy, 1" browband styles IMHO.

The comments from otheTT

The comments from the others about cover it. One other option is to line your head stall. As of late, I only make head stalls that are lined with latigo. I usually use 7/8 oz top and 3/4 oz latigo for the lining. I like the way it feels and wears, it just makes a real nice piece. Bob

There is a local tack swap coming up, I thought I could make a bunch of quick change, real simple, inexpensive one ears to sell. My goal is cheap $$ and simple to make.
