I have an old Singer, originally from a treadle set up that I got from my grandmother's estate. It is already motorized.

Does this mean I can use it to sew leather, with a tune up and the right needles?

So it is not as old as I thought. It is a Singer Spartan 192K, 1954ish. Google seems to indicate it should be quite good for sewing leather. Any tips or stories for this or similar machines. Mostly a hand sewer but would like to save some time.

This is a Singer 99k basically so two layers of garment leather at best.

OTOH it is reasonably rare and in immaculate condition so don't throw it away.

Old Singers are very photogenic.... you can't trust a photo of an old Singer to determine condition . These are great starter machines... for fabric! They ARE pretty unbreakable tho. There are tons of 99k's out there. The Spartan (as I understand) was an entry level machine that sold for slightly less than a 99 (which is the 3/4 sized cousin of the venerable Model 66) and without the name. Most of the parts are interchangeable.
