Members Big Sioux Saddlery Posted July 5, 2014 Members Report Posted July 5, 2014 Now THAT is nice work! Just beautiful. I used to do some braiding, so I know the time involved. I never got fast enough or good enough to do it for money. Do you make your own rawhide and cut your own strings? I tried making some rawhide, once form a newborn calf that died, one from a deer hide, and one from a fat steer we had butchered. None of them turned out very well. When cut into strings and worked, the grain would crack really easily. That was many years ago, so I don't even remember for sure how I did it. Quote
Moderator bruce johnson Posted July 5, 2014 Moderator Report Posted July 5, 2014 Good work yet again Bret, Sure like what I have from you. Quote

Members TXAG Posted July 5, 2014 Members Report Posted July 5, 2014 Sure wish I could buy some good rawhide from someone...I live in town so cannot process my own. But I can cut it into string if I could find some good round(ish) pieces to buy..... Quote
Members bucksnort Posted July 6, 2014 Members Report Posted July 6, 2014 Nice work Bret. You've been busy Quote
rcsaddles Posted July 9, 2014 Report Posted July 9, 2014 TXAG, check out www.sterntanning.com Jeff is making rawhide rounds that are very good. We used some at Sheridan for a lace cutting class and they worked great. Nick Carter made Hondas out of the lace we cut. Jeff is great to work with and reasonable on price. Tell him Joe gave you the info if you would please. Everyone likes to know where their advertising works. Quote
