Members MonicaJacobson Posted July 6, 2014 Members Report Posted July 6, 2014 Well, I learned a lot about wallet making this month. Also, this is my first try with inlay. I thought I'd make a wallet for my sis-in-law for her birthday, but I've only ever made one or two before, and not since I joined this forum, so they weren't anything to write home about. But I didn't want to buy new tools. You know how it goes. So I made it, and it's not so bad, but if I ever make another one, I'll thin the leather waaaay down (I used 7 oz... not smart, though I thinned the pockets down to almost paper thin.), buy a higher spi tool, and use thinner thread. So... thanks for looking. If you have any other bright ideas, let me know. 7 oz. veg tanned (I know, I know), snake skin inlay, pigskin lining, veg tanned pockets. Members MonicaJacobson Posted July 7, 2014 Author Members Report Posted July 7, 2014 Thanks, plowboy, and pawpaw! Thefanninator, yes, I do my own photography, as well. My husband used to be a professional photographer, so I get to use his nice cameras and lenses. It's nice. Quote http://monicajacobson.com/ https://www.etsy.com/shop/TrimGoTrix?ref=si_shop
Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted July 10, 2014 Contributing Member Report Posted July 10, 2014 Monica that is an awesome looking purse. It may be thick but I like the design and the inlay. I'll bet she'll love it. Quote There are always possibilities.... Members Quillleather Posted July 10, 2014 Members Report Posted July 10, 2014 So I was at kohls the other day looking at their wallets. None of them passed for my own personal quality standards. I like a heavier leather and thread. Something that will last forever, not one year. And yours, I think, looks great as is . Beautiful work. Members MonicaJacobson Posted July 16, 2014 Author Members Report Posted July 16, 2014 Thank you, Bob, and Quilleather! Heh, I hope she feels the same way! I would have replied before, but I was very distracted by getting a visit from my younger sisters. Here are some of the things we worked on (their first projects), though my sisster started the bag when I went back to Texas in November: Quote http://monicajacobson.com/ https://www.etsy.com/shop/TrimGoTrix?ref=si_shop
Members craftsman827 Posted July 18, 2014 Members Report Posted July 18, 2014 nice inlay wallet ! what color dye did you use ? Quote
Members MonicaJacobson Posted July 18, 2014 Author Members Report Posted July 18, 2014 Thanks! I used the Fiebings Ox Blood, mixed with some yellow and diluted with lacquer thinner. I didn't quite dilute it enough - it was supposed to be more pink. Quote http://monicajacobson.com/ https://www.etsy.com/shop/TrimGoTrix?ref=si_shop
