Thank you! I wasn't having any luck getting a chisel or anything to budge the bearing though. So, with no better option, I used a pipe wrench to loosen it up. It scuffed it up a little but was my best option. Just another tip for anyone out there who has the same issues. Quote
Members milkman Posted February 9 Members Report Posted February 9 (edited) Reviving this topic. What is the worst that can happen? I seee that the bearing is mounted from the inside probably after the last owner replaced the transmission belt. Also the belt is not wide enough and it pushed the upper axle to the left side, needle side, so I moved a bit the sprocket to not have that movement. Adler 169 Edit: the lower shaft, feed dog with the eccentric, had also a left right movement. Not sure if I had to eliminate that movement. Unscrewed the lower transmission sprocket, pushed the shaft to the right and tightened the sprocket. Rotated the machine by hand. Looks normal to me. Edited February 9 by milkman Quote
Members Ortholad Posted June 12 Members Report Posted June 12 Reviving this topic again! I tried to follow this procedure to replace an almost-parted timing belt on an Adler 67 (?) that we have been successfully using for 35 years without fail. Unexpectedly, attempting to wedgethe bearing out caused that flange to separate from the bearing, so the bearing is still in the casting. Before I take it offline ( it still works fine until that belt fully splits) I have a few questions for the experts; 1) Our machine looks just like the one in this discussion, but the Adler/dunkoff website has partslist/exploded drawings for the Adler 67 where the bearing does not look like this one. Is it possible I have a different model? (No builder plate that I have found) 2)Can a new bearing be purchased? Does anyone have a machine they are parting out? 3)Is there anyone who has a drawing of this bearing that has dimensions and tolerances so I can have a local machine shop make on from oilite bronze or other bearing metal? At this point I think I can break it loose by heating it and knocking the remains inward with a punch, then maybe drilling and tapping a pair of long screws to mount a bar to and using a gear puller against the end of the shaft? Anyone else have advice or warnings for me. Martin Santa Rosa CA Quote

Members Ortholad Posted June 17 Members Report Posted June 17 Hey Northmount, Here are some pics - first overall, what machine is this? Second, fail of bearing removal following this threads how-to. Third, split in timing belt that has been there for years but I had time to look into this. Any advice appreciated, Martin Quote
Members Ortholad Posted June 17 Members Report Posted June 17 I also found the the Adler/Durkoff website has a manual/parts list for the 167 which does show the bearing so my machine is a 167 not a 67 adn the part I destroyed is #067-10-053-0. Anyone got one? Martin Quote
