Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted September 4, 2014 Contributing Member Report Posted September 4, 2014 I haven't posted anything that I've made here in a while, so here is a notebook I finished recently. It's designed to hold a 5x8 notepad and has a large Celtic knot design on the front and a smaller version of the same knot on the back. It has double loop lacing all around the edges, and one internal pocket. Any comments or questions are welcome. Bob Quote

Members lionfly Posted September 4, 2014 Members Report Posted September 4, 2014 I've seen the tool you used in the corners at the store and I always wondered how in the world you would use it! Fantastic! Quote
Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted September 4, 2014 Author Contributing Member Report Posted September 4, 2014 Thanks all! I don't know why I don't spend more time making Celtic things versus western floral. I always like how they turn out and they always generate a lot of interest in my shop. Quote
Members MonicaJacobson Posted September 4, 2014 Members Report Posted September 4, 2014 That looks awesome, Bob. I love celtic knots. And I really like two different kinds of backgrounding. Quote
Members HippieLee Posted September 4, 2014 Members Report Posted September 4, 2014 That's great! And I'm with ya on the Celtic stuff. And thanks - now I know why I need those two backgrounder tools. The contrast between them sets off the knot-work beautifully. Quote
Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted September 4, 2014 Author Contributing Member Report Posted September 4, 2014 Yes, bargrounders really do a good job of darkening the background inside the knots, and they pick up antique very well. You can kind of get that effect with a checkered backgrounder, but it doesn't work as well. It makes the knot work really stand out.. Quote
Members HippieLee Posted September 4, 2014 Members Report Posted September 4, 2014 bar grounder going on my shopping list right now! Quote
Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted September 4, 2014 Author Contributing Member Report Posted September 4, 2014 Plan on some practice time with them. They definitely have a learning curve and some people just hate them. You have to be really consistent with the force you strike the tool with and keep the rows lined up for it to look even. Quote
Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted September 5, 2014 Author Contributing Member Report Posted September 5, 2014 Thanks all for the very kind words! Quote
Members srtolly Posted September 5, 2014 Members Report Posted September 5, 2014 Beautiful. I have always liked the Celtic Knots. God Bless, Scott Quote
Members shtoink Posted September 5, 2014 Members Report Posted September 5, 2014 I like the execution. It almost makes me think of this... Quote
Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted September 7, 2014 Author Contributing Member Report Posted September 7, 2014 Thanks Shtoink, that is a nice cover! Quote
Members builderofstuff Posted September 10, 2014 Members Report Posted September 10, 2014 Looks amazing. Chris Quote
Members zfcjr67 Posted September 11, 2014 Members Report Posted September 11, 2014 I like the knot and the background changes. It was stated before it really brings out the knot and the design. Quote
Members shtoink Posted September 11, 2014 Members Report Posted September 11, 2014 Thanks Shtoink, that is a nice cover! I hope I didn't cause anyone to think this is my work. This was a screenshot right from the movie and I had nothing to do with it. Sorry for any disappointment/confusion it may have caused. Quote
Members Madadh Posted September 11, 2014 Members Report Posted September 11, 2014 Bob, nice work. Quote
Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted September 11, 2014 Author Contributing Member Report Posted September 11, 2014 Thanks again for the nice comments all! Shtoink, I realized what movie it was from. I didn't remember it until you posted the picture but I like the layout of the cover. It would be a fun challenge to try and make since the snake-knot would need to be an applique. Quote
Members tatehunt Posted September 11, 2014 Members Report Posted September 11, 2014 Nice and clean tooling, and grey workmanship! That was supposed to read "Great" not grey! Quote
Contributing Member Bob Blea Posted September 15, 2014 Author Contributing Member Report Posted September 15, 2014 Ha! thanks tatehunt! Quote
