Hey guys, I'm new here and looking to get into the art but am having trouble finding a decent stitching pony for what my puny finances will allow. Any knowledge or help pointing me in the right direction would be great!

Thanks,

Trey

Ps. I apologize in advance if I posted this in the wrong section!

I made my own based on the illustrations and dimensions in Tandy's catalogue and a leathercraft book, using various scraps of wood and other odds 'n'ends I had lying around

For the hinge at the bottom I used an old door hinge, you could use a piece of thick leather

To hold it together I just wrapped some elastic round the whole affair; not pretty, but it does the job

Sorry, but my computing skills are even weaker than my leathercraft skills and I don't yet know how to post photographs

I have made my own stitching pony, sharpening strop, burnisher/slicker and awl haft for a scratch awl

You don't have to be a master carpenter. Just have a good look & think about something, and improve your skills as you go.

I made one after Chuck Burrows plans out of red oak with a nice brass hinge and a plastic tightening knob (Cheryl's post; Wild Rose Trading Company). Cost about 10 bucks total. It's good looking and highly functional. I don't know what I'd to without it at arm's reach. Use it daily.

I'm going to have to make a pony. I made my own Sailor's Palm for pushing needles thro. A new Canadian penny with the maple leaf nicely stops the needle from sliding across it's surface as I push.
