Cowboy Cd-243 Alternative

Does anyone know if Cobra, Techsew, or if Juki or Adler make a similar machine to the Cowboy CB-243?

It is a flat bed machine based on the 441. The CD-243 is priced too highly in my opinion, at $2900. Looking for an alternative.

How about a CB4500 with flat bed attachment if you need a machine with the same specs.

I think Juki and Adler will be even more expensive!!!

That sounds really interesting, and better than a flat bed machine. I've never seen a flat bed attachment before now. Do you happen to have any good recommendations for where I could pickup a flat bed attachment? So far I've only found one, and it's for a machine I'm none to interested in.

True about the Juki and Adler, but I've had good luck finding used, older sewing machines from them for less money, so I'm just keeping the options open. =)

Make your own table attachment. This one just drops in place, the legs fold up for storage. Your design would depend on the type of table you get with your machine.

I used to have an Adler 204-370. This is the same machine as the Cowboy CB-243. If you think the CB-243 is too expensive, at $2900, try finding a new or unused Adler 204-370 for under $5,000.

cylinder arm with flatbed attachment is the right call, you get the best of both worlds!

Toledo industrial sewing machine sells the flatbed attachment for the CB 4500. I have one and it's great, two machines in one. I believe the flatbed setup is less than $100, but double check that figure.

The CB4500 and CB5500 seem more appropriately priced. The Techsew 5100 also looks nice, and also has a $99 flat bed attachment. I think the cylinder arm is the right way to go.



Edit: for anyone else that stumbles across this thread with a similar question. If you really need a dedicated flat bed, I think the Tech Sew 180, long arm, heavy duty flat bed machine is a better alternative to the cd-243, based on the price difference.

The 180 is a really nice machine for heavy duty webbing, parachute harnesses, technical materials and more. People tend to go for a cylinder machine for leather projects because of the versatility, but for those who need a dedicated long arm heavy duty flatbed machine the 180 is a popular choice.
