Members DavidL Posted January 7, 2015 Members Report Posted January 7, 2015 fine leather working.com has edge paint 4 ounces for 18. It says in the description it is concentrated and used in high end brands. Could be relabelled stahl edge paint. One question to yoji - did you get any info about how long the paint will last before it expires. I read from another member 1 year until it expires although I'm not sure on his source of info. I contacted stahl.com and they will be replying shortly. They have representatives in USA. Quote
Members yoji Posted January 7, 2015 Author Members Report Posted January 7, 2015 (edited) hi yigi, i live in europe, Germany i have been looking for this Stahl paint for a long time, do you know from where can i order it? hi kidinsky, well i was looking for it for a long time also and stumbled upon a guy in a tannery, long story short he got me the right guy to talk to and i took a flight inside europe just to go and see him and to get some of this paint. unfortunately the guy is not suppose to sell it to anyone. the stahl paint that hermes uses is not the regular stahl edge paint. they make it specially for them. I bought enough to my self and and got some for people who contacted me and asked for some paint. If you are interested i will be flying to probably within the next two months. and i might get some for you also. let me know if you are interested. Take into consideration that i cant get my hands on for more than couple of liters at most. fine leather working.com has edge paint 4 ounces for 18. I contacted stahl.com and they will be replying shortly. They have representatives in USA. well i have not tried their product so no idea on that. But i have tried lots of rebranded products and most of the time it is just fenice plus (the thicker) paint. But fine leather working.com does sell quality products so maybe they are selling the regular stahl edge paint. I reaaaaaaaaly dont think that they were able to get their hands on the hermes edge paint and selling it. I think that i have contacted probably every distributor of stahl all over the world and probably they have all blacklisted me already ))))) , and recently got invited to stahl master workshop in france specificly for the edge finishing, apperantly they are having a sort of seminar about edge finishing. it is going to be 4 days and i am still thinking to go or not.. anyway, getting the stahl edge finishing product is really not a problem at all, you can get it in US for sure. You should be able to get it from the leather industry suppliers it is a generic product. not bad at all. tried it, but it is just not working good enough with hot glazing. it just burns out quickly and peels when you make more than one layer. it is designed to be applied by machine in one pass. Members malchik Posted December 10, 2015 Members Report Posted December 10, 2015 What to say, people gets obsessed what the big one uses (have been in this train as well) forgetting that the most important is how to use it. Thick paints are intended for use in edge machines and usually doesn't works well with electric creasers and hot edge treatment. Hermés uses a lot of machinery, also edge paint machines, so what Hermés uses it's a broad term. If you are doing edge finish by hand and your technique demands use of hot edging (i.e. edge durability) like in the case of Hermés bags, than you have to use edge paint with less viscosity enabling paint to penetrate deeper into the edge. By applying hot iron treatment, the layer of paint melts down producing strongest bond you can get (much stronger than with thick paint). Regarding how many layers you need for neat edge, I usually need 2 or 3 to make a perfect edge both with Tandy Professional Edge (Fenice), Giardini semi dense matt and Vernis 600. The trick is to make edge layers as even as possible, lightly sanded, before you apply the paint. Those three mentioned paints are pretty similar in the final result and in terms of durability. Giardini (cooperates with Stahl) and Fenice are by my opinion acrylics, but for vernis 600 I'm not sure, it doesn't appears as an acrylic. Real difference is temperature of hot iron required to melt down the paint (V600 requires higher)... So, morale of the story is don't get blinded what Big Names uses, find what works for you best Quote KAMILeather@Facebook

The page on your site has pictures over the text. So, we can't see prices. Quote I'm not paying 80 bucks for a belt!!! It's a strip of leather. How hard could it be? 4 years and 3 grand later.... I have a belt I can finally live with. Stitching is like gravy, it's only great if you make it every day. From Texas but in Bossier City, Louisiana.
