Rohn Report post Posted December 20, 2014 This is a billfold I made with leather and insides from Springfield Leather. Very nice leather but fairly thin which may be better for a wallet that is to be carried in the back pocket. I lined the back with pigskin liner. The insides are the "Men's Deluxe Wallet Interior." First time using Springfield insides and really like it. I hope to be doing more in the future. I have carried this wallet for about a week now so it may not look quite as good as it did brand new. Springfield's embossed leather is really nice stuff and I will be using more of it from now on. I also like Springfield's lace. It is good strong lace at a good price IMHO. rosiart Report post Posted December 20, 2014 Love the colour of this! Did you dye it or did it come that way? Looks like it will get a beautiful patina with age.
Rohn Report post Posted December 20, 2014 I did not dye this, it comes this color. They call it turquoise Brown. There is many different colors you can get this in from Springfield Leather.

Tramps Leatherworking Report post Posted December 21, 2014 I love the look of this, if there is a black version of this Gator pattern, I can see me making some biker wallets with this leather...
texback Report post Posted December 21, 2014 Very nice looking wallet.
Rohn Report post Posted December 21, 2014 Feraud and Texback, Thanks for the kind comments. Tramp, Thanks for the nice comment. Springfield Leather does have some of this in black and a bunch of other colors. I have tried twice to post a web address but to no avail. (Sometimes this site is hard for me to use and it ends in frustrations. )
Wild Bill46 Report post Posted December 21, 2014 Rohn --------------- Super nice looking Bilfold, I think Im fond of the multi colored gator. The mexican hand braid looks very dressy with this leather combo, the more I look, the more fond of it I get. It goes without saying your work looks flawless. ------------ Wild Bill46
MonicaJacobson Report post Posted December 21, 2014 Rohn, super cool! I am drooling over it. Since real gator isn't in my future at the moment, I'm getting some from Springfield asap. Thanks for posting! It's always great to see your work.
Rohn Report post Posted December 22, 2014 Thanks for the great comments. I will also be doing more wallets with the type of leather form Springfield. I like it a lot.
Chief31794 Report post Posted December 22, 2014 Rohn, I agree with everyone else, really nice looking wallet and great job on the lacing. I use their interiors a lot, I also get Faille cloth from Kevin that I use to line the wallet with instead of pigskin, a little thinner, but really is kind of classy as well. Either works great. Beautiful, Chief

Oldtoolsniper Report post Posted December 23, 2014 That is really nice. I can hardly keep my stitches looking neat and organized, I can't imagine the mess I'd have trying that lacing. I know you have not used it long but I would be interested to see how long it holds up to everyday use. I'm going to get some to try it out too! Rohn Report post Posted December 23, 2014 Oldtoolsniper, Thanks for the nice comments. I really do believe this lacing will hold up very well. On my last billfold it lasted over 25 years and I carried it every single day, although it was broken at the folds. I believe this lacing pattern to be stronger than the double loop I used before. The lace is also a very high quality lace form Springfield Leather. I do believe it will last me a very long time.
Oldtoolsniper Report post Posted December 24, 2014 Sorry, I have no doubt the lacing will hold up. I was referring to the coloring and texture on the leather..
Rohn Report post Posted December 24, 2014 No apology necessary Oldtoolsniper. I am also anxious to see how this leather wears. I guess time will tell.
Eddie1968 Report post Posted December 24, 2014 that looks really really good Rohn! I have purchased a few of the interiors as well. I bought the classic vintage. i really like them as well. I have usually used the 'unpunched' interiors and stitched with my machine. However there was some confusion with my last order and i received the prepunched instead. Which is ok except for not sure what best way is to punch holes on wallet back to match interior? Is this what you ordered? and if so how did u punch the exterior holes to match? Again I really like what you've done here! looks awesome!! Thanks! Eddie
Rohn Report post Posted December 24, 2014 Thanks for the nice comments Eddie. The interior I used is not punched so I punched the lacing holes together with the back. I guess if I had the pre-punched interior, I would glue the back and interior together and use the holes that are already punched for my guide holes to punch holes in the back. Oldtoolsniper Report post Posted January 3, 2015 Rohn, Got my "gator leather" today. Same color as yours. I've never made a wallet but I have done some iPhone cases with card pockets, no lining. I've also worked with beaver tail which I laminated to veg tan leather before stitching. By laminating I mean glued the entire thing together with contact cement to make one piece. Is that how you applied the pig lining? If not could you give a quick idea on how it's done. I bought more than enough to experiment but I am willing to cheat off you since the one you made is what inspired me. That is of course if you are willing to share. Thanks
Rohn Report post Posted January 3, 2015 Oldtoolsniper I glue the back lining on the back with Barge cement. Some other contact cement will work also. Then I glue all the edges that are going to be laced or stitched together, with the same. Glue about 1/4 or so in from the edge. Then they are ready for the holes or slits for lacing or sewing. I am making another wallet using Cognac, Diamond Back Croco Print from Springfield Leather. Lacing on it as time permits. It is beautiful leather. I'll post it when I get it finished. Hope you post yours too.

Hope you post yours too. Thanks for the information. I'm going to stitch mine if it works out. Im going to go with an iPhone/card holder. I'm interested to see if the edges can be finished like I do with veg tan. I'm assuming since it will have a veg tan backing the edges will finish fine. Good thing those critters aren't really that color in the wild, they would have been extinct long ago.
