Beveling Lace.

Recommended Posts

This is one of those monumental moments in my braiding skill set. As most braiders do, we try out things to see if that thing will work or not.

I've been trying out different blades and such for years now. I just came across these shaving blades. The double edge platinum chrome blades used in those shavers from the old days. So I bought these blades and never tried them out. I thought to myself. These are paper thin and flimsy and wont do the job. Well my bad. They bevel the lace really damn smooth and crisp. I have never been able to cut my kangaroo lace but to a 1/16th width. Since trying these blades out, I have managed to cut 2 lengths of laces, just scrap pieces to a 1/64th width beveled and split and in the photo you'll see just how smooth the cuts are.

I bought these blades from a local drug store. They should be available in most wally worlds, kmarts and maybe even safeways. I don't know that for sure though.

What's a good one in your opinion & what are you using now? What's good costs too?

Well. I think for anyone just starting out in braiding and learning to cut and bevel and split, the y-knot lace cutter/beveler is great to use. Most of all it's small so you can take it anywhere. The newer model is the best one. I think they sell for a $200.00 or so.

These are the Old-Skool type blades that come in the white aluminum dispensers? double bladed with that funny punched-out shape in the middle to go around a piece of metal in a razor before two sides screw down to hold it on?

I've been using the single sided razor blades with the heavy piece on the back. Just snap that off and use it. And the blades for hand scrapers that Tandy and lots of other outfits sell. Similar to the old injector blades for shaving.
