Members plowboy73 Posted February 10, 2015 Members Report Posted February 10, 2015 I just bought a working Singer 43-4. The guy i bought it from used it for working on tack. What is the max thread size to use and can I find a presser foot that will not mark up veg tan? Any other thoughts on this machine? I bought this machine to learn on ultimately I will buy either a Cobra or a Cowboy just wanted to start somewhere. Quote
CowboyBob Posted February 11, 2015 Report Posted February 11, 2015 If I remember correctly it does not have a walking foot?Either way if it does or not we have feet that will fit. Quote
Members plowboy73 Posted February 11, 2015 Author Members Report Posted February 11, 2015 You are correct no walking foot. I will make sure to give you a call when I'm ready to by a foot. I'm having a hard time finding a lot of info on it other than it was designated as a leather sewing machine. Quote
Members Constabulary Posted February 11, 2015 Members Report Posted February 11, 2015 You can download a parts list here - these are sometimes very helful: http://www.hendersonsewing.com/manual.asp?page=70 And check out this list for what your machine was used for http://ismacs.net/singer_sewing_machine_company/singer-sewing-machines-for-manufacturing-purposes.html (for searching the list: Press F3 on yor keyboard then enter 43-4 then press enter - just for the case you dunu ) Quote

Members plowboy73 Posted February 11, 2015 Author Members Report Posted February 11, 2015 Thanks for your help Constabulary and Cowboy Bob. It gives me some places to start! Quote
Members Darren Brosowski Posted February 23, 2015 Members Report Posted February 23, 2015 Typical Singer, looks like a 17 class machine. Why build one machine when you can build two (or more) that do the same job> Quote

Members Tramps Leatherworking Posted February 23, 2015 Members Report Posted February 23, 2015 Didn't the Singer 43-4 originally have a roller presser? Quote
Members jimi Posted February 24, 2015 Members Report Posted February 24, 2015 Yes Tramps, if it is not on the machine i bet those ones on ebay would fit? on the singer 18 they fit well and they are not expensive, so no big loss? Quote
