Members verus22 Posted April 26, 2015 Members Report Posted April 26, 2015 (edited) Still have a couple bugs to work out, but it's getting closer to what I envisioned. (My Dad wants a belt like this, so I'm working on the design/technique. Hope to have it down by Christmas!) Edited April 26, 2015 by verus22 Quote
Members JAZZMAN Posted April 26, 2015 Members Report Posted April 26, 2015 Hey verus this is truly beautiful work, it turns an ordinary belt into something truly special, how did you mark it out and draw the design please? Is the belt lined, can we have a pic of the back please? Quote
Members verus22 Posted April 26, 2015 Author Members Report Posted April 26, 2015 (edited) It's not lined...and it's not quite a full belt either. lol Just a strip from a belt blank I picked up at Tandy. The design was done with a set of compass dividers and a straight edge, and layed out using the golden mean as a reference. I just did this for the practice, but everything was done by hand. Members JAZZMAN Posted April 26, 2015 Members Report Posted April 26, 2015 I need to have a go at this, i once saw Nigel Armitage do something sinilar on his facebook page, but i cannot find it again, anyway thanks for the inspiration.Take care. Quote
Members Tugadude Posted April 26, 2015 Members Report Posted April 26, 2015 You have it down! Nice job. Quote
Members Tugadude Posted April 26, 2015 Members Report Posted April 26, 2015 BTW, you could still make a full belt with that "sample". Just takes a little creativity. Quote
Members verus22 Posted April 26, 2015 Author Members Report Posted April 26, 2015 Or just find someone with a 22 in. waist! Quote

Members MonicaJacobson Posted April 30, 2015 Members Report Posted April 30, 2015 It looks great! I'd take even a half a belt that looks like that. Quote
Members verus22 Posted April 30, 2015 Author Members Report Posted April 30, 2015 It pretty much is half a belt. Where should I ship it? Lol Quote
Members Avion Posted April 30, 2015 Members Report Posted April 30, 2015 Really really nice! I have been wanting one like it for myself.... Waiting for my skills to be sufficient! Quote
Members verus22 Posted May 1, 2015 Author Members Report Posted May 1, 2015 Avion, I went back to have another look at the belt picture you posted...I'd say you're stitching skills are there! Do plenty of practice on paper first with the layout, so you can get the proportions you want. I lay out 2 lines the width of the belt, then factor in the border stitching and creasing first, then play around with proportions till I get what I like. Once I'm there, I use the paper layout to help with putting the design on the leather. I take the measurements from the paper with the dividers and transfering to the leather, although I suppose you could do it the same way you would for tooling/carving with a tracing (something I'm not too good at). Members verus22 Posted May 2, 2015 Author Members Report Posted May 2, 2015 Another great video from Nigel!! A bit different than my method, but it gives me some ideas to help tighten up my layout, and of course, it works! Thanks Razmot for finding it! Jazzman and Avion, I hope that video helps more than my vague description! (It's tough to put into just words...) Quote
Members Slim Pickens Posted May 2, 2015 Members Report Posted May 2, 2015 This looks great! If this is your first go at it you may be on to a speciality of yours! Quote
Members verus22 Posted May 2, 2015 Author Members Report Posted May 2, 2015 Thanks! I'm planning on adding it to my line-up...got a few more ideas in mind, but I don't want to over-do it. Quote
