Members rachaelr11 Posted May 28, 2015 Members Report Posted May 28, 2015 Hi! I was wondering who you guys love to buy your hides from? I'm super happy with my Wickett & Craig English Bridle for handbag straps buy want a buttery soft 2.5-3.5 oz. hide for handbag bodies and clutches. I occasionally use the Tandy Minelli sides but am looking for a larger hide to yield more products. Plus, I think I can find a larger hide at a better price. I own a business so anyone who does wholesale pricing is a plus. If you work with soft garment weight leathers I want to know where you like to purchase it from! Thanks for any feedback! Quote
Members TinkerTailor Posted May 28, 2015 Members Report Posted May 28, 2015 Location would help alot. We are a global community after all. Aside from that there are a couple apparently fine companies advertised at the top of the page. I am on the fence about tandy recently, as many others are. Quality, consistancy and pricing could all be better there and have been in the past it seems. Most of the other bigger American suppliers are on here somewhere. I am in canada and have a wonderful shop nearby with almost no web presence, so i have no first hand knowledge of the US market. Happy hunting. Quote
Members rachaelr11 Posted May 28, 2015 Author Members Report Posted May 28, 2015 Thanks Tinker Tailor! I'm in Atlanta. I have worked with some great online companies but it just seems hard to find something lightweight like a 3 oz. that is not an odd lot. Just need to be able to reorder. Quote
Members smirak Posted May 28, 2015 Members Report Posted May 28, 2015 Kinda off topic, but wondering if anyone has physically been to weaver leather. I'm in canton Ohio this week on business and wanted to stop by there this afternoon. Quote
Moderator Art Posted May 28, 2015 Moderator Report Posted May 28, 2015 Many times, it is out in the boonies. Big operation especially the manufacturing end of it. Good showroom, you should enjoy it. Art Quote
Contributing Member JLSleather Posted May 28, 2015 Contributing Member Report Posted May 28, 2015 Are you talking about veg tanned 3 oz, or garment type leathers? For chrome tanned leather in a 'bag' weight, you might check with http://stleather.com/ Their on-line catalog is pretty lame, but the leather is just fine. Quote
Members rachaelr11 Posted May 28, 2015 Author Members Report Posted May 28, 2015 Garment leathers about 2.5- 3.5 oz. A nice pebbled leather with a smooth buttery soft feel. Ideally. Thanks! Quote
Members capsterdog Posted May 28, 2015 Members Report Posted May 28, 2015 Have you tried Maverick Leather? Nice people and very nice prices and leather Quote
Members chiefjason Posted May 30, 2015 Members Report Posted May 30, 2015 I deal mostly with Thoroughbred Leather in KY. They have been showing some lighter weight leathers on Facebook recently. Have had good dealing with American Leather Direct too. Also KY. Quote
Contributing Member 24VOLTS Posted June 10, 2015 Contributing Member Report Posted June 10, 2015 I use Hide House in Napa CA. Good people there!! I have not tried Maverick but plan on trying some of their leather. Quote
Members JanC Posted June 16, 2015 Members Report Posted June 16, 2015 I've been to Maverick a few times. Cool people working there. I usually get my leather from Wicket & Craig, however. I'd like to visit Hide House one day... Quote
Troy I Posted June 16, 2015 Report Posted June 16, 2015 (edited) Wickett & Craig...good leather...good people. Edited June 16, 2015 by Troy I Quote
Members MonicaJacobson Posted June 18, 2015 Members Report Posted June 18, 2015 Another vote for Maverick. I haven't bought anything but Horween from them, so I can't rate their thinner garment leathers, but they have a good color selection (it looked like), and they are super helpful and will go out in the warehouse, handle the leather, and describe it and its' condition to you while they're on the phone with you. Members Chapmaker Posted June 24, 2015 Members Report Posted June 24, 2015 The Hide House, Napa CA. Nothing but good things to say. They ship next day, and accept returns of any leather I am not pleased with. Quote
Members Geneva Posted June 25, 2015 Members Report Posted June 25, 2015 Try Garrett Leather Co. Buffalo, NY. They sell mostly upholstery material. Their web site is located in their name. Good luck. Quote
