Ian Report post Posted November 26, 2008 He stole my idea - my goal when/if I get old is to be an eccentric old leatherworker, tapping away at chunks of hide and only taking jobs I really want. Might even take up the herb again and crank Motorhead, or at least Skynyrd while I work and hold audience with journalists, all begging for the story of the 100 year old leather crafter. Well, that's the plan anyway. Great picture, Tom.

Johanna Report post Posted November 26, 2008 Gave me a cold chill. Looks a lot like my first husband, the old man who dragged me kicking and screaming into leather land in the first place, Jon Alger. Would make a neat leather carving or tattoo, the Leather Wizard. Johanna
UKRay Report post Posted November 26, 2008 no not you..... could be U K Ray in a few years... Quite right, cousin - and not too many years either, but I'll have to do a bit more work on the whiskers... LOL
TomSwede Report post Posted November 26, 2008 Well as you probably figured out by now I'd take me an eternity to get this much hair so I'm gonna need to find another pic for my future good looking as seasoned leathercrafter!! But I just love this photo, this is the man and the art!!! Tom

MADMAX22 Report post Posted December 4, 2008 Hey guys, I emailed the photographer of the photo and he sent me a reply. This was the answer and a translation via computer Gracias Corey por tus palabras. La foto llamada "Artesano" fue tomada en Santander (España) durante una feria de artesanía antigua hace dos años. Creo recordar que el artesano era argentino. Siento no poder daros mas detalles sobre esa persona. Un saludo Jose A Gallego Thanks Corey by your words.the called photo "Artisan" was taken in Santander (Spain) during a fair of old craft two years ago. I believe to recall that the artisan was Argentine.feel not to be able to give you but details on that person.a saludoJose TO Spaniard
RustyMelton Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Thanks Tom, great picture. Leather wizard, I like the sound of that.
HorsehairBraider Report post Posted February 4, 2009 Your computer did a pretty good job of translation! At the end though he is saying, "I'm sorry I can't give you more details about this person", I think that's a little closer to what he meant. Also at the start, he is saying, "Thank you for your words" or we might say "Thanks for writing", not "by your words". Amazingly close for a computer! What a cool guy, both the Leather Wizard and the photographer for writing back. It's a wonderful photograph. That's one I'd hang on the wall. I guess I still read Spanish better than I speak, despite all my neighbors being native Spanish-speakers.
MADMAX22 Report post Posted February 4, 2009 That is one cool thing about modern internet tech. Even though we didnt get much info on it since there was not much to give but the fact that I was able to instantly pretty much talk to someone that I didnt know in a different language half way round the globe is kind of amazing. Just think even 30yrs ago if I had tried to do that.
