Cleaning Mold Off Leather

Recommended Posts

I had a friend send me a picture of her father's leather case for his old movie camera. The case was in a basement for a few decades and now it has mold on it. Anyone know a trick for cleaning it?

I do not know how it would affect the leather but a mild bleach solution should kill the mold and clean it off. Its what I used to use when I was painting and we cleaned decks off but we would mix 50/50.

Just a thought.

They can wipe the mold and mildew off with a damp cloth then use a water and lemon juice mixture.

Along the idea of chrij, a pinch of ascorbic acid keeps mold from growing in Black Walnut Hull Tincture. I don't know what it will do to leather, but yes, lemon or ascorbic acid solution should be mold deterrents.

Ive always cleaned mold off horse tack with Murphys Oil, water, and brush. I had to do this a lot in West Virginia when we ran a boarding stable. Once a year, typically.

BIckmore's Bick 4 Leather Conditioner has vinegar in it. I use it it the heart of South on my horse tack with excellent results.
