DrmCa Report post Posted August 2, 2015 All of my old textile sewing machines have the Organ needles in them. Now that I have Pfaff 335 I am wondering if these needles thread hole is the largest, allowing me to use the largest thread for the needle size. Does anyone know if there is any variance in the hole sizes among those manufacturers?
gottaknow Report post Posted August 3, 2015 On most classes, Schmetz have longer eyes, making them easier to thread. They also have slightly longer scarfs which allow advancing and retarding timing on lockstitches. I use a fair amount of GrozBeckertt, but on my lockstitch machines I use Schmetz. Darren Brosowski Report post Posted August 6, 2015 Schmetz are the best you can get. GB, Organ, Dotec and TNC are a pretty good second level. Orange from Korea on a good day. There are plenty of others but it can depend on needle class and type of sewing.
Gregg From Keystone Sewing Report post Posted August 6, 2015 Groz-Beckert second rate? That's news to me. The reality is that it's very rare to have issues with needles and hooks that are genuine quality.
shoepatcher Report post Posted August 6, 2015 For everyone's information, I was told by a very reliable source early last year that Schmetz had move d their production from Germany to India to cut production costs. I have noticed in the past year that Schmetz delivery on needles has become noticeably slower that in the past. Groz-Beckert needles are right up there with Schmetz when it comes to quality. We use them everyday in our plant because they make a Titanium coated needle in systems 134-35 and 135x17. Schmetz does not make a Titanium coated needle. The TI coated needles definitely last longer and do not heat up as much as the chrome plated needles. just my 2 cents. glenn
Constabulary Report post Posted August 6, 2015 Agree with Gregg - I have tried a few needle brands and from my experience Groz Beckert and Schmetz are very equal and I never had issued with either brand (standard needles no titanium coating or so). I use GB 135x17 (size 120 to 160) in my Singer 111G156, 307G2 and 29K71 and Sys. 328 Schmetz and old brand METWAR + Leo Lammertz (afaik both are now GB) im my Singer 133K3. But I had issued with odd brands like "white egret" or other junkie brands I don´t even remember- I would never buy them again. I still have a box of orig. Singer 135x17 in size 110 and they also work well even at high speed (zig zag repairs). You usually can´t go wrong with Schmetz or Groz Beckert - both are top needles.
