Members tboyce Posted December 8, 2015 Members Report Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) A seventeen dollar length of 4x6. A 79 cent hinge and a couple of hours in the shop and I have myself a European style stitching clam. I totally see what the fuss is with these things. Very comfortable and ergonomic Edited December 8, 2015 by tboyce Quote
dirtclod Posted December 8, 2015 Report Posted December 8, 2015 (edited) Nice job. Guess you used a copeing saw to cut it out ? 😁 Edited December 8, 2015 by dirtclod Quote
King's X Posted December 9, 2015 Report Posted December 9, 2015 Be careful T.....you may have to go into business making these now. Jk Quote
Members gmace99 Posted December 9, 2015 Members Report Posted December 9, 2015 Nice job you should put the hole and the staple in it to put your stirrup leather. The job is way easier when you strap it to a bench and put your foot in the stirrup. Can't seeme making a set as I have about 30 of them in my school. Again great job well done Quote
Members capsterdog Posted December 9, 2015 Members Report Posted December 9, 2015 Very nice, I am jealous. Looks great. Are you going to put any type of finish on it? Can show a picture of the hinge attached? Quote
Members tboyce Posted December 9, 2015 Author Members Report Posted December 9, 2015 I'm still refining the process. in the one pictured, the wood was cut to 1-1/4" thick. I just finished drawing up another one that I will make out of solid maple boards glued together to make a solid block that I can cut out. Since it will be hardwood and, because of the boards glued together, I figure it will be much stronger and so I have reduced the thickness to only 3/4" When I'm done, I'll post the process in pictures and a pattern Quote

Members vicroll91 Posted December 10, 2015 Members Report Posted December 10, 2015 Let me know if you'd be interested in selling any of your prototypes! I recently posted in the wanted section for this style clam as mine is ill-suited to the way I sit and hold my work. Quote
Members silverbullet Posted December 10, 2015 Members Report Posted December 10, 2015 Ok , now design one for me to sew with while sitting in my hospital bed! The one I made is ok but not as conducive to use as something ya throw under your leg or accross your lap must be a way ?? Curved to go under one leg with a strap maybe anyone else have any thoughts ?? Quote
Members mato Posted December 11, 2015 Members Report Posted December 11, 2015 looks good but where is the hinge ? i can see it and what hold the tension on the jaws? Quote
