New guy from WA

Recommended Posts

Howdy, new guy here from the dry side of Washington. I'm a welder by trade but that came about after spending 5 years framing for a small construction outfit. Suppose you could say I like making things with my hands. I'm not very good at leather even though I've been doing it for a few years now though I can make a serviceable sheath (but it won't be fancy). I'd like to take on some more advanced projects but I need help learning a few things and this looked like the right place to learn some things.

About the best place to learn IMHO. Welcome to the site.

I am from the wet side of WA.

This is a virtual library of leather congress. I find tips hidden in random threads all over this place. If you're using your phone in the top right corner is a tab for unread content. Read read read.

You say you framed for five years? I did it for four. I always remember people telling me they used to frame. I'd ask how long they did it for??? Answers were always in weeks or months. Ha.

Welcome to the forum, fellow tradesman.

Have fun.

If you are near the Tri-Cities (Richland, Pasco, Kennewick) there are few guys here that get together and share ideas.  Herb is our knife sheath maker.  If you are near Yakima, I've got another fella and some in Walla Walla and Milton-Freewater some more. And Spokane has Ken Bush and company.  Check out www.pslac.org and the public newsletter, the RawHide Gazette ( http://pslac.org/table_index_rawhide.htm )for some of our efforts.  Welcome.

Thanks everyone!

Biker, I loved it. Only reason I left was the paychecks started coming in whenever the boss felt like it. I'd get two in one week and then have to wait nearly a month for the next one. I got fed up with that pretty quick.

Stelmackr thanks for the info but I am not close to any of those places. Grew up on a small ranch 5 miles south of Banks Lake. I'll look at the website though and hopefully I can make a meeting one of these days!

I left it for the same reason. Plus, I saw how rough a framer looked after 20 years. :o
