bikermutt07 Report post Posted September 5, 2016 Ok, I think I'm seeing it. Is the bottom pocket using the body for the front of the pocket? That's what I'm seeing since your stitch is across the tops of those pockets. I'll stick with my simple pockets, but I love learning. Thanks for mitigating my ignorance. billybopp Report post Posted September 5, 2016 You might take a look at ribbon pockets. Looks similar on the outside leather, but uses a strip of fabric to form pockets. A search here will find em for you. Bill
RockyAussie Report post Posted September 5, 2016 YinTx Now I've seen your pocket pics I think your giving yourself a fair bit of grief going right to particularly the outer edge. I for years have done fabric lining in the pockets but keep in mind if using leather pocket lining that is stitched to the top as well, there is no need for the pockets to all go to the outer edge. They hold cards not coin. If the back longest pocket goes to the edge all the rest will be contained anyway. Hope that helps the stitching probs in future. YinTx Report post Posted September 5, 2016 Rocky, yes I agree, after I made this run of wallets, I knew the full width pockets were causing some issues, particularly with inconsistencies in edge thickness and having to stitch through the cement and lining for the periphery stitch, making it very difficult to keep even and nice. I had already decided to do a partial width version for the next go round, so nice to know I won't be creating problems when I do that. I had been contemplating cloth pockets as I mentioned earlier, but have not. I will check out the ribbon pockets, thanks for the search pointer, Bill. And yes, Biker, the lowest pocket does use the body for the front of the pocket. Also I had an idea for the "T-Pocket" design last night as I was drifting off to sleep, so I may try it in the very near future. Likely not very different from the current "T-pocket" design, just a very slight variation. YinTx
billybopp Report post Posted September 5, 2016 Here is the link to the ribbon pocket thread. I would have posted the link last night, but was using a tablet, where such things are a royal pain! Nice as tablets are, some things are much easier on a real computer! Bill
RockyAussie Report post Posted September 6, 2016 Hi YinTx , having read through the link from Bill, I thought best to mention the fraying edges that let most of this construction down normally. Years ago I made up fabric to not fray by spraying some watered down PVA wood glue onto the back of taffeta fabric. This worked Ok, but after a lot of searching we found in Italy a fabric manufacturer that makes up for many leading brand names called Tabru. If you decide to at some stage go up the fabric route here is the link. Address to Nino Aiello and ask for some polyster Tes Jacq for use in wallets. They are normally good for samples. Check if they have an agent there first.http://www.tabru.eu/en/company.html
