Correct. This is the early Singer walking foot system that is actually only single feed. The outer foot has a leaf spring on the back of it that lets the foot move back with the material, then snaps forward as the feed dog drops below the top of the throat plate. The inside foot and needle only move vertically. I have the same feed on my Singer 42-5.

I have seen attempts to sew harness on one of these machines. While they may have the capacity, the results are crude at best. I can't imagine trying to do fine work on one.  Visibility is extremely limited by the large foot.  I would save the $600 and put it toward a machine better suited for your needs. This is a flatbed machine. For heavy leatherwork, generally a cylinder arm is more useful.

Y'all have convinced me. I had thought it was compound feed, but it's not. I will save up.
