Members Zandeosaddles Posted June 6, 2017 Members Report Posted June 6, 2017 Hi All. I thought I would share my treadle conversion of my machine. We lived off the grid an I decided to convert my machine to work either electrically or with treadle power. Will post an operational video later. Happy sewing. yay now I can post video too. Quote
RockyAussie Posted June 6, 2017 Report Posted June 6, 2017 Nice looking set up. I would have thought it would be difficult on wheels to treadle.Looks forward to seeing the operational video. Quote
Members Darren Brosowski Posted June 6, 2017 Members Report Posted June 6, 2017 I love treadle machines and have built industrial treadle machines both old and new. Ideally to drive the 4500 I would use a band wheel that weighs about 10kg and have a diameter of around 200mm on the pulley. Quote
Members Zandeosaddles Posted June 6, 2017 Author Members Report Posted June 6, 2017 Darren. That would give the momentum and toque transfer which my setup lacks for heavier work. Brian. The wheels lock so mo problem. I use a high chair. Quote

I have built a few custom treadle machines and absolutely love them. The Singer 7 class is probably one of the heaviest treadles built and to keep up the momentum - which can be lost by the pittman rod binding at top and bottom dead centre - they used a crank shaft with two pedals offset at 180 degrees. Somewhere I have the manual for a Chinese machine that has a similar style treadle Quote
Members jimi Posted June 10, 2017 Members Report Posted June 10, 2017 Maybe you could clamp some weights on the side of the flywheel?? Quote
Members LumpenDoodle2 Posted June 10, 2017 Members Report Posted June 10, 2017 Speaking of flywheels, (and trying to not hijack the thread), I've been wondering about fitting a handle on the flywheel of my Juki 341 I find that it doesn't matter how slow a machine sews, I still prefer 'handwheeling' it on complicated curvey bits. Anyone know of a direct replacement larger flywheel, I could drill and fit a handle to. If none around, I'll live with what I have. Quote
