Here is another journal I have recently made. I'm open for any comments, questions, tips, or ideas concerning this or future journals!

Leather weight is 8/9 oz (Pockets are 4/5 oz). Thread is 138 bonded polyester. Journal is 6x8.5".

Thank you!

I was surprised to learn the leather was so thick - what did you do to make it supple enough to bend and easily fold over to close the journal?

That's the weird thing. I didn't do anything to make it bend easier. Not too long ago I got a single shoulder that was 8 oz and I tried to make a journal out of it but even though I sanded it down a good bit it would not fold without major buckling. This print I got is about the same thickness but it is far more flexible so I didn't have to do any sanding and there is very little buckling when folded. I think it may have something to do with it being tooled. What do you think?

Looks great man!

I think those milled croc prints are a softer temper due to the milling. I could be wrong.

I had a piece of embossed leather that was 3-4 oz and it was stiff as cardboard - that's why I asked.  I bought it at Tandy and I believe at the time that all the embossed pieces were pretty stiff.  I'll look through the pile the next time I go there to see if any of the embossed pieces are less stiff.  I'll have to try adding a bit of NF oil to the piece I have to see how much I can soften it up.

Yeah, its gotta be soft for some other reason then. Someone will no doubt come across this post and have an answer.
