Kovant Report post Posted December 10, 2017 Hi I would like to know if someone knows if the bars of this handbag are made of wood or are they made of another material. I think that they are made of wood but I’m not sure because I guess wood bars could bent... Could someone help me? Thanks
Northmount Report post Posted December 10, 2017 Wood can be quite adequate. A fireplace wood carrier uses 3/4" wood dowel. Carries a very heavy load. 3/8" might do well for a hand bag. Have also seen brass rod used. Tom
Matt S Report post Posted December 10, 2017 My grandparents carried their groceries in two large bags of similar construction. Each 4ft x 18in x 18in. Used 3/4" birch dowels. They lasted 20 years of weekly shopping trips until the fabric wore out.

rodneywt1180b Report post Posted December 12, 2017 If you're looking to copy the design invest in good dowels. I know the dowels sold at the hardware store here are made of a softer and not very strong wood. Look for some straight grained oak dowels about 3/8" diameter, no smaller, I think smaller would flex too much. 1/2" might be a bit bulky once they're wrapped. I think metal might get a bit heavy. A stiff fiberglass rod or possibly acrylic might work too. Some plastics might be too flexible.
