KingsCountyLeather Report post Posted December 23, 2017 Hi all, just finished this note pad cover for someone as a Christmas present. The leathers is a nice soft 2mm shoe leather, it’s fully lined with pigskin and hand sewn. Ive been working on my hand sewn but it’s not as good as I would like. While working on the stitches, i did figure out how to make the stitches better. So.. on the next project I hope to see a difference. As someone said “more than once...” Stitching is like gravy. It’s only great if you make it every day. Or something like that... You know who you are! Or at least everyone else does!! Happy Christmas to all. Ive really enjoyed this forum this year, Thank you all. Ger.
Mattsbagger Report post Posted December 23, 2017 Nice looking product. I know what you mean about hand stitching. It's all about doing the EXACT same on every stitch. Including on how tight you pull each stitch.
YinTx Report post Posted December 23, 2017 That looks super clean! I like the design and the contrasting stitching, which look pretty good from these photos. What kind of leather is it that you used? YinTx

I sewed half of this one night while watching tv and didn’t take too much care. Had to rip it all back and do it again.

It is used for shoes and bags and is quite flexible but not stretchy.

bikermutt07 Report post Posted December 24, 2017 I'm prouder of that line than I am of my stitching. That pad cover looks great.
plinkercases Report post Posted December 24, 2017 Nice job for sure. I know what you mean about concentration versus having something just going in the back ground. When I am at my best the room can be silent and I have 4 syllable mantra that I use along with the stich rhythm and the whole thing becomes very meditative.... or sometimes it becomes mediocre!! or just a mess.... came back to hand stitching after almost half year off and it was a gong show for the first few pieces then settled down again. Mind you I think its like that for all the various activities in this craft even machine sewing. More is betterer.... and we see all the flaws even some that aren't there. I have some old shoe leather haven't worked with yet but this is a good idea for a use thanks, and again mice design and execution.

Thank you, Most of the time when I’m working either at my daytime job or at leather work I work in silence, but if I do listen to music it usually is either Bruce Springsteen or Emy Lou Harris. (I am old...)
plinkercases Report post Posted December 28, 2017 Ok i will fully support working to The Boss... still my all time favourite and especially before The River... then ok with Tom Joad. Emy Lou is good for my soul as well... i am alsi old it seems. I used to nees outside noise to cover the inside noise but am now very happy in silence ans in fact seek it where and when i can. I will have to download some of his songs for the leatherwork now. Thanks. My wife’s brother was diagnosed with cancer 3 years ago. 5 months later he died. He was 40 and his daughter was 5 at the time. When looking at his iPad for music he liked most for the funeral... it turned out that he had been mostly listening to Michael kiwanuka song “I’m getting ready” This singer I listen to a lot also. bikermutt07 Report post Posted December 28, 2017 I just added some of his albums to my Amazon list. That was a good song. Thanks. I play Johnson's music quietly when I work in client's homes. He never offends customers no matter their age. Actually, a lot of people ask about the artist. This is one of the songs that speaks to me on the most primal of levels. I interpret it's meaning as a man questioning his worth to the gods, and their answer. It is moving. Enjoy.

I'm sorry for the loss of your brother. That is a trying loss. I'm the youngest of four boys. When my oldest brother was 18, he was murdered (I was only 8). I don't remember much about him, but I sure remember what it was like without him. God bless. (Sorry, music got me a little stirred)
