Members RemingtonSteel Posted January 29, 2018 Members Report Posted January 29, 2018 I'll be happy when my front side cuts look as good as your back side cuts. Beautiful work, and a belt I would be proud to wear. Quote
Members Deemer Posted January 29, 2018 Members Report Posted January 29, 2018 Mods, can we move this out of the "Show Off!" forum and into the "Make Everybody Jealous" forum? That belt is just too much. Quote
Contributing Member fredk Posted January 29, 2018 Contributing Member Report Posted January 29, 2018 Very much beautiful Is it an illusion but is the end tapered narrower? Quote Al speling misteaks aer all mi own werk..
Contributing Member Tim Schroeder Posted January 29, 2018 Author Contributing Member Report Posted January 29, 2018 This belt is pretty thick. Almost 1/4" thick. It is a blank from Panhandle Leather probably 8/9 oz. and I lined it with a piece of 3/4 oz. I did skive down both ends. My belts always bend or get a kink in the back so I thought thicker would be better. I did inlay a piece of the material I use for toe boxes in my boots about 8" long in the middle hopefully to stop that from happening. Yes the ends are tapered. Belt is 1 9/16" with the ends 1". Thanks for all the positive comments. Quote
Members AdamLVL Posted February 1, 2018 Members Report Posted February 1, 2018 You've got some high level finishing skills Tim. Beautiful work. Might I ask what kind of dye you're using on the edges under the stitching? Quote
Contributing Member Tim Schroeder Posted February 2, 2018 Author Contributing Member Report Posted February 2, 2018 Thanks The dye is a 50/50 mixture of Feibing's Light Brown and Chocolate Brown thinned 50% . I mixed the colors a long time ago because I didn't have enough of either one to do a project and used it ever since. I really like the color. Thanks again. Quote
Members battlemunky Posted February 2, 2018 Members Report Posted February 2, 2018 Your backgrounding work is stupid good. It all is great but with this belt and the tool bag, you're background work is what has floored me. Not to mention the color control too. Quote
Members Stetson912 Posted February 2, 2018 Members Report Posted February 2, 2018 Do you use a resist of some sort when dying the edges? Or just a lot of care with a brush? Quote
Contributing Member Tim Schroeder Posted February 2, 2018 Author Contributing Member Report Posted February 2, 2018 I use Bob Park's Edge Markers. One of the best tools I have. They are like a big fat marker with what ever color dye you want. The top has Wyo Sheen for a resist before I Antique so if you did get some on top it wipes off if you are quick. They make dying the edges easy and a lot faster. Quote
