Members Rolandranch Posted June 10, 2018 Members Report Posted June 10, 2018 Here is another wallet I just finished for my brother's 18th birthday (today). It is stingray and pigskin. Comments/critique are welcome. Thanks for looking! -Ryan Quote
garypl Posted June 10, 2018 Report Posted June 10, 2018 Looks good Roland! Only comment I have is the inside stitching on the left side looks uneven. What happened there? Gary Quote Cowboy 4500, Consew 206RB-4

Stingray is a pain to stitch because those little bumps are extremely hard so the needle of the machine couldn't always go exactly where I wanted it to. That's why I used the black thread so it wasn't as noticeable. Edited June 10, 2018 by Rolandranch Quote
garypl Posted June 10, 2018 Report Posted June 10, 2018 I think the outside looks good - just noticed the white thread on the inside. Never worked with stingray - sounds troublesome! Gary Quote Cowboy 4500, Consew 206RB-4

And yes, stingray is very troublesome! It's hard to cut it and those bumps break and shatter rather than leaving a clean edge. I think that's why most of the time you see stingray in an inlay without the edges showing. Quote
Members battlemunky Posted June 10, 2018 Members Report Posted June 10, 2018 Looks like you did a really good job dude. Stingray sounds like a huge PITA! Quote
Members skinhacker Posted June 10, 2018 Members Report Posted June 10, 2018 I have been thinking of doing a stingray holster inlay. I may rethink that Quote

Members ComputerDoctor Posted June 10, 2018 Members Report Posted June 10, 2018 That's beautiful! I've caught a lot of Stingray's on the California coast but have never seen their flesh tanned. I like it.:) Did you get it at a Tandy store? When I use any super thin hide, I superglue the edges before I make the final pattern cut and stamp holes for stitching, it keeps things together and makes it easier to burnish. I suggest that when you take a picture of the inside of a wallet, you use a $100 bill---it's much more impressive:) Sam Quote

I use super glue as well. $100 bill?! If only I had $100! I figured if I put a couple $100 bills in there it would make the wallet look cheap. Everyone would look at it and say, "What beautiful money!" Quote
