Members ewayne53 Posted July 6, 2018 Members Report Posted July 6, 2018 I've only been doing leather work for a few months making knife sheathes and doing some wet forming. I decided to give holster making a try. Here's my first effort. Quote
Contributing Member JLSleather Posted July 7, 2018 Contributing Member Report Posted July 7, 2018 OH NO NO NO -- that just won't do! The holster looks pretty good (who doesn't like tight, consistent stitches?@!) but we can't have a leather worker running around in a WEB BELT Quote "Observation is 9/10 of the law." Members ewayne53 Posted July 7, 2018 Author Members Report Posted July 7, 2018 It was either a holster or a belt and I have belts. lol A belt will be next and a more western style holster once I figure out what I want. Design and planning takes longer than actual making anything. Quote
Members HamiltonLeather Posted July 7, 2018 Members Report Posted July 7, 2018 Nice job. Is that just the natural color of the leather or is it dyed? Quote
Members noobleather Posted July 7, 2018 Members Report Posted July 7, 2018 Great work, nice basket weave and stitching. Awesome work for first attempt Quote
Members ewayne53 Posted July 7, 2018 Author Members Report Posted July 7, 2018 It's natural color with beeswax for protection. Quote

Members RegisD Posted July 9, 2018 Members Report Posted July 9, 2018 (edited) Very nicely done. Not sure how that inside retaining string is going to work over time. I can imagine it falling down inside the pouch and the barrel getting wrapped around it on re-holstering or some other calamity. You might give that one some thought. I've learned there are some wheels that should not be reinvented. Just my dos centavos. Edited July 9, 2018 by RegisD Quote Handmade doesn't have flaws it's just built-in character.
bikermutt07 Posted September 25, 2018 Report Posted September 25, 2018 I like it. Quote I'm not paying 80 bucks for a belt!!! It's a strip of leather. How hard could it be? 4 years and 3 grand later.... I have a belt I can finally live with. Stitching is like gravy, it's only great if you make it every day. From Texas but in Bossier City, Louisiana.
Members ewayne53 Posted October 13, 2018 Author Members Report Posted October 13, 2018 (edited) I liked the holster but I wasn't satisfied so I made another one and stained this one. I also made a cartridge belt to go match. Still happy with how it turned out being a beginner. Edited October 13, 2018 by ewayne53 Quote

Members JazzBass Posted October 13, 2018 Members Report Posted October 13, 2018 Sure doesn't look like a "beginner" to me, and I've got plenty of items of my own to prove it Great Job! Quote Christopher J. Gordanhttps://www.youtube.com/user/ChrisGordan
Members battlemunky Posted October 13, 2018 Members Report Posted October 13, 2018 Yeah, if only my beginner stuff looked like that. Hell....if only my current stuff looked that good. Keep at it, it looks great! Quote

I personally don't like the look of rivets, especially steel ones that inevitably chip and peel (solid copper don't though). The ends of the bullet strip can be sewn down without much trouble. STILLLLL, that's a nice lookin' belt rotcheer . Quote "Observation is 9/10 of the law." IF what you do is something that ANYBODY can do, then don't be surprised when ANYBODY does.
