Juki 1508 NH bobbin issue

Recommended Posts

Can one of you experts tell me why this is happening in my bobbin case. I hold thread tight when starting the stitch .... and sometimes this happens mid-stitch as it did in the photo .....Thanks for any and all advice.

Fisrt of all, your bobbin is smaller than the bobbin race. That allows it to wiggle around and shake thread loose. It also appears to be shorter than the top of its post, so it may flop up and down as well. All this unexpected slack may be causing your thread hangup. Unknown is if the timing is spot on, or retarded, or advanced.

Make sure your check spring is holding the top thread taut until the needle goes through the leather.

Do I have the wrong bobbins?  Most of the time this machine stitches flawlessly ... thanks for your reply!

Yes.

The general diameter is 1.08”

and the width or thickness is about .440”

Good day

Your Juki LU uses Juki LU bobbins, which fill the bobbin basket with just enough clearance to spin freely. Further, there should be a star shaped anti-spin spring under the bobbin.

Make sure you have threaded the top thread around the check spring and that it has clicked into the race around the spring. If you forget the check spring, the top thread can easily get caught in the bobbin post.

I recommend ordering bobbins by part number. Don't trust the "Fits XYZ machines" statements (your bobbins "fit" but they're not right.) Get some original Juki bobbins to do your machine justice - how much can they cost, really?

One online reference that I've found to be very reliable states that the Juki 1508 requires type U bobbins, if you are having trouble sourcing proper Juki bobbins.

I picked up another thread post, as theres a place for another on top. I found it handy and can stack 4 bobbins on it for the ready, this is why its there now.

With one already loaded and 4 prewound, I will have plenty.

Good day

Floyd

BTW: The Juki U bobbins have twice the capacity of a standard 111 type bobbin and are even bigger than the M style used in many newer walking foot machines.

Great answers.  Just wanted to chime in that while the experts are answering a question for one person, many people learn and benefit from the conversation.  Much appreciated.
