Members Bawarrior Posted October 6, 2018 Members Report Posted October 6, 2018 Thought I would be a little creative interested in your comments Quote
alpha2 Posted October 6, 2018 Report Posted October 6, 2018 Offhand, I'd say you've got a good part of this figured out! I've done some nice sheaths, but I've not delved into the inlaid yet! Jeff Quote
Members Bawarrior Posted October 6, 2018 Author Members Report Posted October 6, 2018 I came up with this idea a few years back to three quarter Stitch. Inlay is much more work. Takes patience Quote
Rockoboy Posted October 6, 2018 Report Posted October 6, 2018 All of your sheaths look really good. Do you use welts? I am also wondering about the benefit of the inlay on the back, where nobody will see it. Quote
Members Bawarrior Posted October 7, 2018 Author Members Report Posted October 7, 2018 Yes use welts, and no advantage just Aesthetics just got carried away with the creative process Quote

I used a toad-skin inlay, using embroidery thread (because its all I had in that colour) on a sheath for a $3 knife ... just to see if I could do it. The system worked, but my skill level was way off the mark. Quote
Members Bawarrior Posted October 7, 2018 Author Members Report Posted October 7, 2018 Thinking back to when I did that, actually had small piece of skin that would be wasted. I put it to use. Little more about the welts. With a small cam in the welt, knife actually lock as it's going in sheath Quote
Members battlemunky Posted October 7, 2018 Members Report Posted October 7, 2018 A maker on the bushcraft forum I frequent makes those type 3/4 sewn sheaths. I like the idea but haven't made one yet. Would you mind explaining a bit about your cam lock @Bawarrior? Is it just a bump to push past that makes it a bit harder for the knife to jump out on its own? Quote
Members Bawarrior Posted October 7, 2018 Author Members Report Posted October 7, 2018 (edited) This little cam actually feels as though it locks in place as knife passes here's a pic hope this helps Edited October 7, 2018 by Bawarrior Added more info Quote
Members battlemunky Posted October 7, 2018 Members Report Posted October 7, 2018 Yep, that is what I was chewing on in my mind. I'm kicking myself for never having had the idea on my own. I love this forum. Quote
Members Bawarrior Posted October 7, 2018 Author Members Report Posted October 7, 2018 Glad to have been of some help Quote

Rockoboy Posted October 26, 2018 Report Posted October 26, 2018 That IS a welt! Looks heavy enough to kill a bloke if it fell out of a tree! Quote
