Bigdogs Report post Posted November 21, 2018 I’m a Deputy Sheriff. I got into leather work about a year ago. I’m a K9 handler for my department. My K9 partner is like my best friend! I’m with him more than anybody else. He sleeps beside my bed at night! Or on it. My wife has accepted that he is my side kick so to speak. Anyway I can’t stand vinyl collars. They suck! They start stinking and get nasty quick like. I just don’t like em! I could not find a nice leather collar for my side kick so I decided to spend a bunch of money on making one. Now all the other handlers’ K9’s have collars that I made in my department. One of my coworkers trained and competes in sport dog competitions. Several of her teammates want me to make collars for them. However a few of them want super heavy duty 2 inch double ply collars. Cool, I can make that however I can’t find any decent 2 inch wide buckles. I was thinking about making them with 2 inch straps and tapering down to 1.5 inches to fit common buckles. However a few people are like naw I want a 2 inch buckle. Does anybody have any sources for 2 inch buckles. I know they exist! Any help would be greatly appreciated!! Thanks ahead of time!! alpha2 Report post Posted November 21, 2018 (edited) The Buckle Guy says they have them up to 2 1/4", but I couldn't find any even 2". Ohio Travel Bag had three 2" buckles on their site. Tandy Leather Factory has one 2" double-prong in nickle plate. I just looked at my selection of 1 1/2" buckles, and a 2" buckle is going to be huge. Not a lot of selection out there! JLSleather Report post Posted November 21, 2018 It's more labor, but I'd lean on them to go with the 1 1/2" buckle. Make the collar a bit like a ranger belt, billets on top of main body. Me, I like conway buckles on collars anyway -- no pulling PAST where it fits to get it on. And over the main body keeps leather between the buckle and the dog -- no pinching skin or pulling hair. Pinch the cop, I won't even notice. Mistreat the dog, we got a issue In fact, I've been TALKING about doing these en masse for too long .. think I'll design some dies and start clickin' em out! bermudahwin Report post Posted November 21, 2018 Are you looking for roller buckles, or with in built in keepers? I have seen some in the UK https://www.macculloch-wallis.co.uk/p/9844/brass-buckles-fittings/mw/brass-plain-oval-buckle-50mm Other saddlery or harness suppliers may have them.
