Can I get a servo motor in the $100 range?

Hi everyone

new here and just became a proud owner of a consew 206!

i quickly found out that it vibrates my entire apartment though, which isn’t great for neighbors. 

Im wondering if there are any servo motors with speed variability in the $100 range that would serve me well. Is that cheap not worth doing, are they fine, is $200 night-and-day. Any advice is appreciated. Thank you!

Usually a 150 from what I've seen. Mine came with one as a complete set and I'm sure it cost less. It is pretty quiet.

Have you tried putting something under each foot that might absorb the vibrations? Carpet, rubber that sort of thing?

You could change the motor pulley to a 2" (50mm) pulley and get a shorter v-belt to keep the existing motor position in roughly the same place. Your motir uses a type 3L (3/8") v-belt. The size in inches will be marked on the outside of the belt. If you have a 4" pulley now and replace it with a 2" pulley, buy a 2" shorter belt.

The last servo motor I bought was a Family Sew FS-550s, which cost about $150, shipped. The dealer changed the factory pulley to a smaller 2" part at no charge. I already had extra v-belts so that saved me about $7.00 or so.

I did. I cut up my roommates old yoga mat haha. Put 7 layers of the stuff under each foot. It helped a lot with the hard resonance to the floor but the thing is such a beast it still is loud. I’d also like to have better control. 

 

I recently had the opportunity of working in a shop that had both clutch and servo motors and the servos were night and day to me.

The sound is my biggest motivation (excuse) to make the move so maybe I can do a combo of a smaller pulley AND a servo motor. 

$150 is reasonable to me though. That is looking like a great option  

How is the speed control in your opinion on that model?

After further inspection, the FS-550 seems to be a rebranded generic (like most things coming out of the greater Asia region). I think it is almost identical to the REX and Enduro servos on Amazon.

i think I may go that route. I love the idea of supporting small shops but will do it more once I’m out of school. If I’m mistaken and these servos are inferior please let me know.

Since you  are in California, I suggest you contact Yamata in California.  They sell the Goldstar GSM-550 motor.  The motor sells from between $126.00-$150.00.   I got mine from All American Sewing in Louisiana.  You have to order the 50 mm pulley separate. Normally comes with a 65mm pulley.  Anyway,  I have used several of them and recently put it on to my new Adler 669 cylinder arm.  It runs nice at slow speeds and has the power at the slow speeds.  You can get a synchronizer for needle positioning for about $25.00 more.    It is a good servo motor.
