Members Ahoward2k Posted January 1, 2019 Members Report Posted January 1, 2019 Hello everyone, I'm Andrew and I'm from the bustling metropolis of Justin Texas. I'm a disabled veteran and was looking for a hobby and I stumbled upon leatherwork and was intrigued so I jumped in. I've been working off and on at it for about 3 months, mostly making small stuff from scrap. All of the work I've done is just sewing, I don't think I have the artistic eye for tooling. I'm here to learn all that I can. Quote
Members Aven Posted January 1, 2019 Members Report Posted January 1, 2019 Welcome Andrew. This is a great place to hang out. It houses numerous lifetimes of information and the people are great. Nothing says you have to tool your work. Once you are comfortable with the basics you might decide you want to add a bit of detail. And if that's the case, you'll find world class artisans here who are more than willing to offer suggestions. But its something that takes practice. Quote

Members Rhale Posted January 2, 2019 Members Report Posted January 2, 2019 Welcome fellow Texan, I also live in small town Texas, Miami to be exact. There is tons of info and a lot of good people willing to help here. I am also a veteran, but fortunate to not be disabled, just old. Welcome aboard. Quote
Members VYO Posted January 2, 2019 Members Report Posted January 2, 2019 Welcome Andrew, I was born in Texas. Some day I'll get back there. When I started out tooling I bought some craftaids from Tandy and a few tools to start - mallot, swivel knife, bevelers, backgrounder, veiner, and couple other tools. The craftaids are nice for a beginner to tooling because they are easy to use and give the user a pattern to tool from. If you ever feel you want to start tooling there are a lot of great people here who are very helpful for everything including tooling. Quote
