Tugadude Report post Posted March 23, 2019 Stopped into me local Tandy on Friday. Great sale on tools and hardware going on. When I checked out I was offered a 2019 catalog. It is thick and chock full of information as well as products. Good resource for beginners. It describes where different parts of hide come from, how tannages differ, etc.. It also has a glossary of common terms, weight to thickness guide, and more.

Everything in the catalogue is available online through Tandy's websites. https://www.tandyleather.com/en/ No need to make it available as a PDF when the website is available online, and probably more up to date than the catalogue. mikesc Report post Posted March 23, 2019 (edited) Wait.. you LIVE in St Louis, home of Hermann Oak, and you shop Tandy?@! I have to admit..I thought that..but did not say it..mainly because my contact with Jeff from Tandy ( see recent thread ..https://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/85167-problems-with-access-to-tandyleathercom/?page=2&tab=comments#comment-578046 made me think, " well if one lives elsewhere"..) Any catalogue ( and any associated "coupons" ) should always be downloadable..it ain't rocket surgery.. BTW.. "To Whom it may concern" "Online Marketing" ( ie: If you have a website ) 101.."tracking"( who downloaded it .."whatever" ) is in the opinion of some involved in marketing "optional"..( unfortunately they usually take that to mean , the person "opted in to being tracked " , no they did not "opt in" unless they specifically said so, and unless they had the choice to continue without opting in, and to download anyway it is not..if one wishes to be complaint with the law ) and the act of downloading, or the access to the page or the site, should not require any "authorisation" of any 3rd party scripts whatsoever, "3rd party scripts" ..which includes all the Google, facebook, instagram, twitter, pinterest, linked in etc crap.. Edited 21 minutes ago by Sheilajeanne That is all fine and dandy ..If..you ( Sheilajeanne ) can access the Tandy website..some countries ( and members here ) are blocked from doing so..https://leatherworker.net/forum/topic/85167-problems-with-access-to-tandyleathercom/?page=2&tab=comments#comment-578046 And it takes but a single click ( by the webmaster ) to transform a website into a downloadable .pdf.. So that ( for example ) I could "download" the .pdf and send it to Andrey ( or whoever )..so that they could then order via email.. Hopefully Tandy will do so..very soon....or I'll have to phone "Jeff" ( again ) ..and explain to him ( so he can explain to Tandy's webmasters.. ) how to do it..and maybe some other things about "how to secure websites, and be "compliant" and how intrusion / hacking reporting obligations work , in USA law"* etc etc .. *One of my "other hats".. Leatherwork is ( for me, and many others ) what you might call a "side / supplementary business" You ( Sheilajeanne ..and maybe others ) have changed your password ?..and moved house ( and thus changed your actual street address, since you moved recently, s you posted about here** ) and changed your email addy ?..because the only thing that the "intruders" ( Into Tandy ) do not have ( maybe ) is your credit card number).. and if / when "one" has an "inkling" about what "anyone" uses as passwords, addys etc , one can extrapolate ( and confirm via research along other avenues ) a great deal from it, usually more than one needs.. ** posting too many personal details..like pictures of the inside of one's house, etc ..is a basic "no-no"..on the internet..There are entire businesses ( the biggest are called facebook and Google ) that are set up just to exploit the fact that people do "tell all"..and "others" , those whose business is "identity theft"..know how to collate what they can from everywhere else that you post details on line.. mikesc Report post Posted March 24, 2019 (edited) The catalogue is available free from the Tandy Library : https://www.leathercraftlibrary.com/product/2003/100th-anniversary-tandy-leather-factory-buyers-guide-193-2019 I just like to have paper copies of Anniversary editions of things The thing is Fred..it is not available as a direct .pdf "link"..you have to "add to cart"..and to be able to "add to cart"..you have to "authorise " various tracking scripts..23 of them in total..whereas the " download as .PDF" "option"can be done without any requiring / using "scripts" needing any authorisation at all..and that would also make the page compliant with GDPR*..which ( as the page stands..it is not ..at all )..I enter the page using an EU identifiable IP address, and it offers me no "options" unless I already have all Javascript set to "allow"..by which time it is too late..and is already illegal " non compliant" for the page that you linked to to be set up the way it is.. *Non compliance with GDPR ( even if the website is not an EU hosted website, as long as it deals with EU citizens, ( even if at the time that they access it they may not be physically in the EU ) or those ( who may not be EU citizens ) whose IP address is in the EU at the time that they access "the site" ) risks a fine of upto 4% of gross annual turnover.. Easy to fix..( "code wise" ) GDPR "compliance" is very simple to implement..costs the webmaster nothing except coding their site's entry points very slightly differently..is even more secure from the webmaster's point of view too ..so ..if they don't, is just evidence of lazy ( or not having the technical coding ability, which can be the case of some independent webmasters, not all of whom are "coders" ) webmaster / webdev work.. I live half an hour away from the nearest Tandy store, and much prefer to shop in person. The few times it hasn't been in person, I've phoned the store directly. I'm well enough known to them that they recognize my voice on the phone. I have ordered a few books from the leathercraft library and paid for those by credit card or paypal, though. As for my identity being stolen, I have a good friend who's an IT specialist. She tried to find me online, and in spite of knowing my real name as well as some of my online aliases, came up with zip. So, guess I'm not doing too badly in the security department, though she's not a specialist in that area. This is a small town, and people know each other. A good friend of mine lives just across the road, and my next door neighbour and I used to work together. I also have two large dogs. The crime rate in the area is extremely low. If anything unusual happens in town, it's on the neighbourhood facebook page within half an hour. I feel pretty safe here. Northmount Report post Posted March 25, 2019 The PDF of the catalog is 69 MB. So a little on the large side to email or post. Tempting to post it here but Tandy may not approve! If Jeff from Tandy wants to provide their approvals, I can post it here. Tom

I am very grateful to you! It looks weird, but despite the fact that access to the www.tandyleather.com from Ukraine is impossible, www.leathercraftlibrary.com is fully accessible to me. I could easily download the catalog using my account. PS. I hope they will not block its also.

FWIW, I rarely ever buy leather at Tandy. Last bit I purchased there was some veg-tan belly that they were practically giving away. Used it to make some coffee cup wraps and a coaster set. It was perfect for that. Tandy has all sorts of bags of fasteners, hardware, etc. and when they have a sale on tools, the prices on their Craftool Pro series is pretty affordable. I enjoy using their Craftool Pro Diamond Chisels. So like I said in the post above, when Hermann Oak has all of those things I guess I won't need Tandy. But until then...
