Members Geoff Posted July 24, 2019 Members Report Posted July 24, 2019 Is there a protocol relating to hammering flat finished stitches? I don't usually flatten mine on belts or wallets, but i am coming round to hammering the stitching on bags. Should it always be hammered or is it personal/customer preference? Quote
Contributing Member fredk Posted July 24, 2019 Contributing Member Report Posted July 24, 2019 imnsho, personal preference. I never hammer and only very occasionally run a stitch marker down them, just to tidy any that look askew Quote
Members soccerdad Posted July 24, 2019 Members Report Posted July 24, 2019 I've heard that flattening the stitches offers some protection by lowering their profile and avoiding some scuffs. If you stitch in a groove, it gets them out of the way even more. If you go for slanted stitches, the hammering sometimes improves that look a bit. Quote
Members nrk Posted July 24, 2019 Members Report Posted July 24, 2019 don't see any reason for hammering stitches.fredk is right 1 hour ago, soccerdad said: I've heard that flattening the stitches offers some protection by lowering their profile and avoiding some scuffs. Contributing Member fredk Posted July 24, 2019 Contributing Member Report Posted July 24, 2019 Might I add that I use a flat profile thread in, 0.5, 0.65, 0.8 and 1mm. When the stitch is pulled up tight the thread lies flat so I've never seen the need to further hammer it flat Quote
Members LeatherLegion Posted July 25, 2019 Members Report Posted July 25, 2019 I hammer down my stitches not only to flatten them but to close the holes a bit too Quote
