Hello.   I am making a wallet and was about finished when i folded the wallet in half.

the inner piece bunched up...

what I have is a piece of veg tan  3 1/2'' x 8 1/2'' as the outside piece

over that, is a thing 3 1/2 x 8 1/2  skin,  that is glued and sewn on 3 sides

this inner piece bunched up like it is to long.. but it is the same size,,

I cut the stitching,   you can see the inner piece is the same length as the outter

what am I doing rong?

The liner has to be shorter. Fold the cover about half way or one third closed while gluing liner.  Only way to prevent wrinkles.

Hope this helps,

Terry

You will find that your inside piece needs to be shorter than your outside. How much will depend on the overall thickness, but many just use a set amount like 1/2". If you have room in your card slots maybe you could take a slice off each end. When you stitch it back up line up your edges and stitch towards center. That little space you have between your pockets will stick up from your outside and won't get stitched down.

For your next wallet, consider making a liner that expands and contracts as the wallet is opened and closed.  The attached pattern is for such a wallet.  The wallet back page 4 (red in the pattern) may be lined with a thin leather liner.  The lining leather must be thin to reduce any wrinkling of the lining leather.

Expandable wallet pattern.pdf

Page 5 shows the right side assembled, the left side is still open so you can see how the tabs fit.  Print pages 2 through 4 full size, not sized to fit.  Other pages you may print to fit or just use the file as reference.
