Smaller Sewing Machine Stand/Table

Recommended Posts

Hey All

I have been doing extensive research on Light/Medium duty sewing machines to handle the smaller leather my Cobra Class 4 doesn't like.

I have pretty much decided to go with the TechSew 611 Pro and modify it with a Sailrite delicate/leather foot and feed dog.  This isn't the ideal machine for me, but I have very limited space in my leather working room so I can't accommodate a large industrial stand/table.

After looking at the room, I realize that I do have a large closet that measures 39"x23". I could easily remove the closet door and put an LED light on the ceiling to make it a great place for a proper industrial sewing machine.  My problem is however, the only smaller sewing machine table/stands seem to be at least 46" wide.

Does anyone know a manufacturer who sells proper industrial walking foot machines with smaller tables?  The only one I can find is from Tandy Leather and it seems way overpriced for the sewing machine and table.

I've cut several standard machine tables down to 36" length, even adding a hinge to the cut off piece, to make a folding table a couple times. It's not too big of a job, if you have some tools and are even a little handy. You should cut the table top upside down though, to keep from chipping the laminate.

As trash treasure has said cutting a table down is not that hard a job with some basic tools. I table mounted / inlaying a Barracuda using an old Singer treadle base, making a 1 1/2 " table top and making an arrangement to utilize the the treadle foot peddle to activate the foot peddle of the Barracuda motor. If you can modify a standard sewing table then I would forget the portable sewing machine and go with a real walking foot industrial machine either new or used. If you are buying new and only need a walking foot I would recommend something similar to the Juki 1181N. If you go with an Chinese clone there are too many options to recommend one or another. Comparing brand name machines with clones on the Rock is probably going to be near impossible. Some clones are good others not so much. Buy Once, Cry Once.

I made a new frame, out of recycled steel tube and made a top out of two layers of industrial ply glued and screwed from underside for an overlocker and it is less then 2 foot square and does the job nicely.

I made it to fit in a corner and if you where to made something, you can made how you want, you could have it so the piece you cut off swing up to give you a full size when needed.

If you have to have it made the the price goes out the window.

Bert.

Like tt I've cut a couple of tables down so that they are only as wide as the metal frame underneath. Works well.
