Sheilajeanne Report post Posted December 12, 2019 (edited) So, this machine is available near me for only $100. What weight will it sew? http:// 78939903_10156251645040666_4101836485148278784_n.jpg Edit: it's a Chinese made Typical sewing machine Model 2972, and there's no motor. It's a treadle machine. I would have to add a motor. Edited December 12, 2019 by Sheilajeanne
Rhale Report post Posted December 13, 2019 I don’t know what weight it will sew but if it works, for a hundred dollars, BUY IT! Rodney
shoepatcher Report post Posted December 13, 2019 1/4" to 5/16" depending on the type of leather. glenn
Wizcrafts Report post Posted December 13, 2019 What Glenn said, with #69 or #92 bonded thread. It is a patcher for shoe and boot uppers, as well as for repairing purses, skates and sewing patches over pockets on vests. Every leather shop that does business with the public should have one. Once you get the machine and learn to operate the treadle, you'll be surprised at how fast it can sew. The big flywheel has two sizes of pulley. The smaller pulley gives more punching power while the larger one gives more speed. Keep the leather belt tight enough to not slip and you won't need a motor. Adding a motor to a cast iron patcher base is a big deal. It would be simpler to mount the head on an industrial sewing machine table that only has a belt slot cut out and a motor underneath. Sheilajeanne Report post Posted December 13, 2019 Yeah, I knew it was a patcher. Looks like someone else had first dibs on it, and has re-contacted the seller and will pick it up Sunday. Damn, I could have picked it up tomorrow...

Sheilajeanne Report post Posted December 13, 2019 I texted the seller as soon as I saw the ad, but alas, someone else got in there first. It was a re-post on Canadian Leather Crafters, so someone else saw it on Marketplace first.
