Looks like a great trim knife you got there! You can likely skive really easily with it with some practice too.

Wow! Amazing.

The link does not work for me but I think it is a problem with my browser.

If anyone else has this problem, let me know.

Looks great. Not available in the UK (knives are scary..) but just this afternoon I was considering how appropriate my own small kiridashi would be for leatherwork. It proved fantastic at slicing, but not so much for skiving. Might have to redo the blade profile

That gives me an idea for the hacksaw blade I was given recently.

What size/width hacksaw blade do you have? 25mm and 40mm wide industrial blades are usually made entirely from hardened steel and can indeed be made into very good knives. but modern 13mm blades are usually mainly flexible steel, with just the teeth being hardened, and those are not so good. The clue is if they are described as bimetal

I have made kiridashi/craft knives and skiving knives from old hacksaw blades, some with handles, and they can be made razor sharp. Yes you can skive with a kiridashi

Search YouTube for 'kiridashi' and 'japanese leather knives' and you'll see the sort of thing

Be careful when you make the bevel with a bench grinder as it is easy to burn such thin hard steel

Nice cutter at a great price. I made a few of these a couple years ago out of some high carbon steel scrapes I had in the garage. one is a double bevel and the other is a single bevel.

I was given a 40 mm and a 25 mm, he was very surprised when I asked if he had any more.

One was worn out the other broken about 2/3, with luck he may come good with more.

I hope.

Bert.

Hey, thanks Frodo. I should have posted that the link worked for me the next day.

Don't know what the problem was.

That's a good find.

This.  I'll bet it would do a very nice job especially on things like watch straps, belts, etc.

I bought one, liked it bought two more and like them as well. Even though they arrived sharp they can be taken up a notch. I also bought their bigger brother (Kiridashi craft pocket knife)thicker blade in a wooden handle now that’s a great utility blade for removing that tiny piece of dangling fuzz. The Kiridashi feels good in hand.

How has this little blade held up for you, @Frodo? Still happy with it?

Frodo gifted me one It is a great lil knife holding up real well so far all I've had to do was touch it up a bit. I use 2500 grit paper glued to my pounding stone.

Thanks for the update, guys! At that price it’s hard to go wrong, going to have to order one myself.
