zuludog Report post Posted January 4, 2020 (edited) I used to buy my leather from Tandy as I lived near one of their stores, but since they've closed their shops in Britain I've been getting my leather from this supplier - https://www.buyleatheronline.com They sell all sorts of stuff - natural, plain, printed, dyed, embossed; cow hide, calf, goat, sheep, deer, and a few exotics - even crocodile if you have the money. From offcuts and cheap bellies to top grade shoulders and butts The quality is good and the prices are reasonable. Delivery to UK was about £13 and took 6 days. They also ship worldwide Edited January 4, 2020 by zuludog
chrisash Report post Posted January 4, 2020 For the top end fashion trade the Italians have it sewn up as the best, they still have hundreds of speciality tanners alive and kicking, where as most of the other countries have given up except for a few very specialised Veg tan companies
Ferg Report post Posted January 6, 2020 I agree. Italian leather is the tops. Only problem I have is after using it I have difficulty with some of what is tanned in the US. Ferg

Living in Europe I have eyeing them for a long time and this summer I pulled the trigger but ended up getting quite disappointed. However, I believe I just had some bad luck and I don't want to close the door to them just yet but I would love to hear some opinions of the quality

zuludog Report post Posted January 17, 2020 These are the pieces of leather I bought from them for wallets, all 1,2 to 1,8mm thick Pale tan belly - - good even colour, no noticeable marks or blemishes Mid brown half skin; dyeing is intentionally a muted dappled effect; no noticeable marks or blemishes Red, and mustard yellow, bellies. Uneven dyeing which is fair enough as they were sold as Grade 2. but that variation is attractive in itself. Some creasing and minor blemishes, but I can easily work round those to find good areas for wallets Burgundy/dull red calfskin. Nice even colour, no noticeable blemishes or marks All these pieces were £29 to £36 each; shipment was about £13 extra in total Buy Leather Online sell all kinds of leather and skins, from cheap sheepskin at about £7 to good quality butts, shoulders, and whole skins at £120 to £190.So you can see that the prices I paid were average, and I accept that the quality will reflect that. If you want better quality you would naturally have to pay more I think they provide a good range. and service to the hobby user, and good value for money. But if you want to be sure of getting absolutely the best quality every time you must go to a recognised top quality supplier, such as Horween, AA Crack, or Metropolitan Leather, but be prepared to pay well over £100 for a shoulder or side At the moment £1 = 1,17 euro
