CFM chuck123wapati Posted January 16, 2020 CFM Report Posted January 16, 2020 Better put this here now as its done. You can still tell me what I jacked up if you want. Its flat backed and made with 9 oz w&c leather mildly wet formed and burnished a bit and edge koted then I used some Fiebings Golden Mink oil to finish and water proof it. The next change to the pattern will be moving the strap up about 3/4" so it can be carried cocked if wanted. Quote
Members Josh Ashman Posted January 16, 2020 Members Report Posted January 16, 2020 Very nice Chuck! That's a nice rick color you got on your holster and I'm jealous of those stag grips on your 1911! Congratulations on making your own design and carrying it through to a working holster! I like mine to ride a little higher, but that's nothing more than a preference call. All the best, Josh Quote
Members rleather Posted January 16, 2020 Members Report Posted January 16, 2020 Chuck, you came up with a really nice pattern, it looks awesome. How many coats and how thick did you put on the oil? I can't get mine to look as good as you have here. Those grips have me drooling. Quote

Members Josh Ashman Posted January 16, 2020 Members Report Posted January 16, 2020 I'd wondered if they were elk! I picked up a nice pair of elk 1911 grips from Lobo a few years ago, he hadn't made them or anything, just some he was selling. If you ever feel like selling a set of those shoot me a message All the best, Josh Quote

One coat so far and I laid I on kinda thick then heated up the leather till it soaked in then rubbed it down it will even out in a couple of days and may get a bit lighter though not much. Quote

That's where I do most of my knife making and antler work for some reason the wife doesn't like the smell of burnt antlers in the house lol. 39 minutes ago, Samalan said: Nice job Chuck like that color the fit looks good to thanks for showing Thank you. I do my leather work in the loft of our house and my wife is sometimes less than thrilled with early morning hole punching or dremel sanding of edges. Shoot me a PM if/when you have a set of full size 1911 elk antler grips up for sale. I'd be very happy to get them! All the best, Josh Quote
