Thanks again guys. This is brilliant stuff for those of us who don't know the difference between a clone and a tractor. I will peruse with interest after I've cooked the dogs dinner. (I'm having a pastie. :( )

Avec ou sans tassle ;)

Look up "pasties" at the urban dictionary..The word has fallen out of use..as has the use of "pasties"..except in same parts of the USA.

Item worn by burlesque dancers.. ;)

I spent a few of my formative years with my head in the toilet down to whisky before someone advised me to try the grape rather than the grain. Been on Brandy ever since. An absolute eye opener.

I'm also partial to Armagnac :) and Rhum Agricole, and certain Tequilas and Gins .. and we have a nice collection of wines..due to various mates who make the good stuff :) ..and then of course there is the Guinness, and some very nice Belgian beers ..and ... :)

Well don't look my way! I have to save my pennies for a sewing machine. And it's beginning to look like I'm gonna need a lot more of em than I first thought. :(

Remember in the 1960-70 Armagnac was the poor mans brandy, it was outside the brandy area and sold as cheap liquor, but then some clever marketing person did a wondrous job on it. I used to love it, but unfortunately that was before i new the beauty of single malts, and the skills that went into it

Oooh there are some very nice Armagnacs that were , and are not of that repute..But I remember the horrors of which you speak :)

Marketing person ? ..For my sins..for my sins around 10 years ( freelance ) in the ad business.."back then"..

Single malts..Oh yes :)..For every taste..

Enjoy

Of the Taliskers..I'm also rather fond of the their Storm.

Funny how that happens. When I thought I could import a 441 clone for a very good price I got all excited! I soon realised that it wasn't going to happen and the price kept going up. By that stage I had determined that I was going to get one anyhow and spent significantly more than I ever intended. I still haven't used it for much!

Mike, I was given a bottle of Laphroig 1/4 Cask, I'd say it belongs over on the right of that chart. It took a bit of getting used to but now I treasure what's left (I'm not sure I can afford another bottle of it!!)

Sadly you gentleman are making me drool, profusely. The body beautiful does not allow me to drink any of my favorite whiskies.

Enjoy your malts and I will keep dreaming of them.

Bert.

I had a small shopitting company so travelling all over staying in lots of hotels. In the morning, still green gilled whilst the others enjoyed a much needed breakfast to do a hard days work. I would never have believed the change after I switched. Didn't get drunk and could eat like a horse in the morning. I still can hardly believe the difference.

What's wrong with this one guys? I wouldn't mind the drive to Ruislip for this one.

Youtube vid here but I think the guy must be drunk because I can't understand a word he's saying.

Previous thread..mentions that model.

spec on typical gc2603

https://www.sunnysewingcenter.com/index.php/en/leather-upholstery-machines/typical-gc-2603-cylinder-arm-walking-foot-sewing-machine-detail

I'm thinking that it may be equivalent to the Techsew 2600 ( Or CB26 ) that Brian suggested as a machine for you a few posts back up there ?..says 138..You might be able to get away with 207 on the top..and 138 on the bottom..Could indeed be a good fit for you..Their ad ( your link to Konsew ) doesn't say if servo and speed reducer are included..

You wouldn't have to hunt for manuals..they are on the page there..the dealer is close to you too..and 12 months warranty.

Edited to add..small picture at bottom right there, shows a servo motor..I can't see a speed reducer..you may not need one straight away* it depends on the servo's bottom speed ..They say you can try before you buy..so take a day out..and take some leather and thread.

*you can always make one..couple of pulleys , a shaft and bearings..or buy one..or have one turned..3:1 is usual..I find 5:1 is handier..and with a 45mm or 50mm pulley on the servo.

My first thought was that it's head unit only, as there's no mention in his description about motor, table or speeds etc. From my previous research, when looking for a 441, Typical appear to be a pretty good brand.

It looks good to me and has the large "M" boobin. Only bad is the 10mm leather sewing thickness. For most wallet and purses and not too bulky totes and stuff it would be great. As you don't to my knowledge have a skiver as yet keep in mind that being able to go thicker would be handy sometimes. Do a few measurements on your Monte Carlo and just be sure that it will do what you want. A lot of the time you can design in to keep things pretty trim but that can mean a skiver would be desirable. As @mikesc pointed out I think it would be very similar to the Techsew 2600 and the measurements would be as those below in the picture -f2600.thumb.jpg.83eefdb0c1770c4f86bee10a204c5b0a.jpg

Wow! Light at the end of the tunnel. Thanks guys. I was beginning to think I was looking for a unicorn for under £1000. Now I'm getting frightened. I might have to buy the thing before I'm ready for it. :)

Just spoke to Konsew. Price inc everything except EPS which will be £30. He's just offered the GLOBAL WF35 Cylinder Arm for the same price. He says it's better built than the Typical and made with better metal and it's not a clone unlike the Typical. What do you thnk guys?

Personally I'd rather have a speed reducer than an EPS..

What is the slowest that the motor will go ?

re Global vs Typical ..possibly easier to get parts for Global, ( seem to be afew more dealers ) although parts should be the same..

Re castings difference ?..Better metal ? in what way ? They look like they are cast from the same mold..Probably in the same factory..Probably using the same metal..unless they have different crucibles( with different alloys in them ) for different badges.

On my old Durkopp I started off replacing the clutch motor pulley and extending the arm (cheapest way to go)but still was nowhere near what I needed to control the thing. Never used one before remember. Then I replaced the handwheel for a 170mm pulley which was much better (and easier to find whilst looking at the work) but still not slow enough so I installed the Jack servo you mentioned earlier and at last it was good for me speed wise but as slow as I tried to press that pedal it always came as a surprise when the damn thing started. I installed the ENP as an afterthought and it's given me more confidence knowing where that needle is. I'm sure I'll get better at it as time goes on. A bit like a golf swing I guess, you start off trying to concentrate on every aspect until it comes right and then you don't need to think about it at all.

The foot lift is fairly limited on these machines. The Konsew specs say 8mm hand lift 13mm knee lift for the Global. The Global site says 6mm hand lift 13mm knee lift. I can't see that as a problem for me but out of curiosity,  if sewing and it rides up on thicker than 13mm can the presser bar accomodate or will it jam?

Lift is what you can get under the foot...doesn't necessarily mean that it can sew through it..I'd say as Brian..sewing capacity on both will be 10mm in veg tan..textiles squash down..machine spec ( lift and sewing thickness ) tends to be talking about textile thickness, even on leather machines ( makes the figures sound better  ;) )..veg tan doesn't squash down much, if at all..I'd not put any leather under there that is thicker than 12 /13mm maximum..Best thing is to go test it ..take some different thickness leather "sandwiches" with you..including some dense leather.

It was a passing thought. Typically a couple of 2-2.4mm.

At a cursory glance those two machines look identical, specs appear to be the same. Sometimes, when a dealer is selling two brands that appear identical and recommends one over another it may simply be because they have a higher profit margin on that item. I guess the best thing is to go and look and try them both. I'll bet they perform the same.

Not sure about its capacity. I would have thought 10mm but in this manual it says 8mm or less on firm stuff. As for the bobbin size I would check with the seller.
