Wasn't sure where to air this grievance . Perhaps others on here have had similar issues. 

I made a hand tooled belt , monogrammed  for a  repeat client, about $100 worth. It was a surprise  birthday gift for  her family member. It was just a simple task of  her  posting it and a few other items in a ' Post Pak'  just  5hrs south of Western Australia , with receipts, tracking number etc. ....but....the client told me today that  Australia Post lost it!!! , what the...??  . Its bad enough to lose anything, but it was a  birthday gift , whats even harder that it  was part of an initiative for tacking the  ' Black Dog' ( mental health),   the element of  surprise is gone . I'm so  &^%$#ing annoyed at our postal service  :mad: 

Oz Post are trying to trace it, if they can't find it,and  although she can make a claim,  the client will come back to me to have another one made, no doubt with a heavy heart. But  I will do the right thing and give her some discount , or even donate the next one as she's already paid for the belt plus what ever P&P she paid.

In hindsight, I guess it would have been easier, and quicker,   to drive the 5 hr trip . 

 I really feel for her as I've had stuff like  dyes, hardware etc.  go missing  myself .

That's a bummer, made worse because it's essentially a one-off hand-made item. I've never had anything go missing - yet - but it's always a concern when I post anything, hoping it gets there.

Always post, or DHL, TNT etc using their insured service..Doesn't compensate for the loss of your time in making the item, but doesn't mean that it costs you money when they do lose* stuff..I always send things via insured , for at least twice the price of the item.They "lose" it, I'm not out of pocket, and the time to make another is also paid for by those who "lost" it..Here that means paying about €5.00 including the postal charges ,for around €150.00 per item insurance value..each additional "tranche" of item value, costs about another €2.00 ..so worth paying..Plus we do not charge for postage..it is included in the price of teach item, pro rata with it's value.

*Lose..frequently means..stolen by the parcel service, or delivered to a bin or a porch somewhere in the same country by a "can't be bothered driver".

Bummer anyway, but you'll know for next time..Personally, "if not my fault, I would not discount, nor freebie", I'd insist that the postal service covered the entire cost of making another, which is why you send everything insured..always..

As I read the OP;  the postal service lost the item after the client had posted it to their relative,  not when HS posted.

I reckon HS should supply his client with a full price costing of the item for the client to use in her claim. Unless he has already. 

In my experience of Royal Mail losing items the basic amount claimable is up to £20 and its hard to get even that out of them. One can, for a small extra fee cover the higher value of an item.

Yeah, its a real bummer (aka, it sucks) when the postal service looses an item. Its like loosing a pet. Maybe it will turn up, eventually.

Yes, you are correct Fred..I skim read it ( OP) while doing something else ( 3 other things at once actually ) and got the wrong end of the stick..mea culpa :oops:

RM only allow £20.00 ?..wow..used to be higher..then it has been over 30 years since I last used them in the UK..I understand that the UK now have parcel farce ( maybe that is them RM ) and yodel and other clown car operators..Here is not much better ( and la post is abysmal..but at least one can insure for reasonable amounts ..) but some of the private operators  are reasonably serious..Including DPD ( which is the business arm of la post ) although in the UK ( from what I read at el reg ) , DPD are also a shower of .....

Australia Post strikes again., when are the going to learn and care about what we post.

I sent some incorrect bobbins to a seller, cheap Chinese sold as Adler and I paid $45.00 for 6, so I sent them back to him, but he never received them and I lost my money, well Australia Post refunded me the Postage.

Yes I had Tracking, Signature and I thought Insurance, but our local corner Post Office is owned by hard to understand people and they did not put the insurance on it. After being lead down the garden path telling me that the track number will find it, a cheque arrived in the mail about 3 months later and they did not even say "Sorry"t you parcel?

Now I use Mailman at Officeworks.

@fredk yes you're right, it was the client that posted the item not me, so its Australia Post that will be held responsible for the loss :)  . She's  had hand tooled belts off me before so I was happy to be accommodating . 

I quite liked that particular belt too, I even  impressed myself .

I will be helping the client anyway I can  . I'd be happy to make  her another one, but the injustice of losing, what I considered something special,  will remain. 

Time will tell.
