Binding tape, Australia?

Recommended Posts

I thought I'd restore my Pfaff 335 to a binder, but where can I get the tape? The only place I've found so far is a local leather supply shop but they want $1.70 per metre for 1" synthetic tape and they only sell by the metre, not bulk.

Where do others get their tape from in Oz?

I have purchased white tape from this seller before, but I thought you might like this colour,

https://www.ebay.com.au/itm/BINDING-TAPE-POLYESTER-25mm-1-FLuro-Pink-HI-VIZ-100-mtrs/133353032331?hash=item1f0c75ca8b:g:wAUAAOSwWgZdAxrD

He does have other colours.

Bert.

PS.

He also has Tape Roll Holder for 18 bucks, but want 17 buck to send it, don't do what I did, still waiting to place and order to justify the cost.

Thanks Bert, I don't think I'll need that colour :P, just your basic black! Certainly cheaper in bulk.:specool:

I searched ebay, of course, but sometimes unless you get exactly the right search term things don't always show up. As for the holder, shouldn't be hard to make something suitable.

I guess it depends what you've got lying around. I have a suitable clamp (off a desk lamp, I think) and only needs a disc - plastic, aluminium, wood etc - so pretty easy.

Sorry, not your subject. But Mr. Dikman may I ask you if your shoe patcher has a walking foot that turns in 360 degrees and has about a 17-inch throat?

Upholstery suppliers normally have it. I go through this one a fair bit- https://www.hamlinsacc.com.au/

I made up a feeder by putting a nail through a cake tin lid into a block of wood with a bearing in between. It just sits behind on the sewing table.

A nail through a cake tin lid!! Come on, Brian, I expected something a bit more refined from you!

TexasCharlie, it's just one of those generic Chinese patchers, there's been quite a few posts about them.

Now yous gone and made me all self conscious:wub: ....I'm a going to paint that nail now. You know that, that is a real rust version I got not one of these new paint on versions of it you get nowadays. P.S. I am not going to match the paint with the cake tin lid. Doesn't matter what you say ....it won.t happen.

I've ordered a 100m roll of tape, can someone tell me the approx. diameter of such a roll, please? I'm making a stand for it and need to know what size to make the base (and no, I'm not using a cake tin lid!).

 That's who I bought it from! Ordered it yesterday and already shipped so prompt service.

But what's the diam. of the roll? I've modified a table clamp with a vertical threaded rod and made a bearing mounted support but I need to know what size to cut the support disk. I should add that I don't have a cake tin lid but I do have a round biscuit tin lid that might do. I might use it just for Brian.

It all depends on how they supply it. I have actually had it come all loose in a bag once. The lid I use is about 20cm if that helps. A bit wider might be better. What I did with the wood piece under the lid is get it so the height is about level with where it feeds into the prongs on the machine. Being on a heavy wood block enables me to position it where ever I want on the back of the sewing table. To me its a bit like getting a good thread run to the tension discs with the thread, You want nothing to hook up or cause any intermittent tensions as it feeds through the prongs and on into the binder shape thing. Warning some tapes feed way nicer than others and you may want to do some machine alterations in order to get the tape to feed more fully in. I removed the left side of the back foot for a start.

Now altered below

Now able to get the tape further over another 2mm and it works way better especially when going around curves and corners.

They are less then 30 min drive from where I live, sadly I have not needed to visit them since I found out they were so close.

Pretty drastic alteration, Brian. I'll keep it in mind. The reason I'm using threaded rod for the upright is that I'd already figured that I'd need to make it height-adjustable  to get the best feeding of the tape. I'm on version 2, wasn't quite happy with version 1.

Bert, could be pretty handy having them so close, you could save a bit on shipping.

I remembered them after my last buy up on bindings and other bits and pieces that they sell.

I purchased a 5 thread overlocker off some one in the same town and he told me about them, have not been back in town since.
