The top piece

I figured the diameter of the horizontal piece [7''] and made the top piece 1''    [8''] . for the fold and sewing

only thing I did not consider is the stretching of the leather. I think i will try leaving the extra 1/2   of the 1''   off to compensate for the stretch?
