How does this thing work? Is it a leather splitter? Is there a video somewhere showing it in action? Thanks!

It's a ranger, for cutting very tough materials like sole leather. I have tried one and found that it leaves marks on more general purpose leathers.

As Matt said, its for cutting sole leather.  I can't tell if that is a Landis or another brand.  Landis made 1in1, 3in1 and a 5in1.  They all had the sole cutter function, but the blades are not the same.  Keep that in mind if you have to replace the blade.

Thanks Matt :) Thought it might be a cheap way to split leather. Glad I asked.

It is an excellent tool for doing rough cuts (ie bigger than needed), especially if you are cutting tough materials like soling leather and shoe materials (rubber, dense foam, etc.).
