Demo: Using Liquid Latex to Mask Dye

I'm re-posting some photos I took to demonstrate using latex as a dye mask, when using an airbrush to color your project. I'll come back and add some more detailed information at some point, but the photos alone are fairly informative.

Please note the difference between using this as a dye resist and an antique resist. This is great for dye jobs, but I don't recommend it for resisting antique.

Thanks for the refresher. I've used it some since the 1st time you posted it. Took me a couple times before I applied thick enough (2-3 coats) especially if putting dye on with brush. I'll have to try it now that I have an airbrush working.

I got it from my local Hobby Lobby in the model train section.

I bought a bottle of resist for water color and tried painting one coat and using oil stain overtop. I only used one coat and I thought the oil stain bled too far into the resist for the trouble. I also tried melting beeswax and painting overtop it. The beeswax was tougher to work with. One cool thing about the beeswax is the cool marbling you can acheive. I painted on a scrap piece and crinkled it by bending, then put a light stain on it..kinda looked like aligator hide. I've also stained the lighter color first and sealed it with top cote to resist taking up the darker second color.
